Lam Research Returns $5B+ to Shareholders in FY26: Can It Reward More?

Lam Research Corporation LRCX delivered strong shareholder returns in fiscal 2026, supported by robust cash generation and rising earnings. The semiconductor equipment maker returned more than $5.12 billion to investors through share repurchases and dividends during the fiscal year, highlighting its commitment to capital returns.

Share buybacks were the larger component. Lam Research spent $3.85 billion on stock repurchases in fiscal 2026, up from $3.42 billion in fiscal 2025. It also paid $1.27 billion in dividends, bringing total shareholder distributions to roughly $5.12 billion.

Lam Research’s improving business performance provides room for additional returns. In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, revenues increased 30% year over year to $6.72 billion, while non-GAAP operating margin expanded to 38.4% from 34.4% in the year-ago quarter. Non-GAAP earnings per share also climbed 37% year over year to $1.82. Stronger earnings can support higher cash generation and give Lam Research greater flexibility to return capital.

The company has also stepped up its dividend policy. In August 2026, Lam Research raised its quarterly dividend by 27% to 33 cents per share from 26 cents. This signals confidence in its longer-term cash flow outlook.

Artificial intelligence-related semiconductor spending, advanced memory demand and stronger equipment sales could support cash flow. If earnings and free cash flow continue to grow, Lam Research appears well-positioned to increase both buybacks and dividends, potentially delivering even greater value to shareholders. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal 2027 suggests revenues will reach $8.10 billion, indicating 52.1% year-over-year growth.

LRCX’s Rivals Offer Strong Capital-Return Alternatives

In the semiconductor equipment market, Lam Research competes with the likes of Applied Materials, Inc. AMAT and KLA Corporation KLAC, which are also returning huge cash to shareholders.

Applied Materials remains a major competitor to Lam Research and has a strong shareholder-return record. In the first nine months of fiscal 2026, AMAT repurchased $1.18 billion of stock and paid $1.15 billion in dividends. The company also raised its quarterly dividend by 15% to 53 cents in March 2026.

Applied Materials’ strong cash generation supports continued buybacks and dividend payments. In the first three quarters of fiscal 2026, the company generated $3.58 billion of free cash flow. At the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2026, Applied Materials had $12.8 billion remaining under its share repurchase authorization, and it continues to expect to distribute 80% to 100% of free cash flow to shareholders.

KLA is another important semiconductor equipment peer with an aggressive capital-return strategy. In fiscal 2026, KLA generated $3.77 billion in free cash flow and returned $3.35 billion through dividends and stock repurchases. This represented about 89% of free cash flow. Earlier in 2026, KLA also increased its dividend by 21% to 23 cents per share, marking its 17th consecutive annual increase.

These peers show that strong cash returns are becoming an important feature of leading semiconductor equipment companies.
