Advanced European Portfolio & Investment in R&D to Aid BYD
BYD Commercial Vehicles recently unveiled its most advanced European product portfolio, covering electric solutions for urban distribution, municipal operations, regional logistics and long-haul transport. The flagship ETT 44 is built on a dedicated electric architecture, combining high performance, ultra-fast charging of up to 1.5MW, advanced battery technology, driver-focused ergonomics and safety features. Its charging capability can add more than 400 kilometers of range in 20 minutes.
The portfolio also includes rigid trucks such as the T020 and T028, vocational vehicles for last-mile delivery and municipal applications, and fully electric yard tractors. These models share common technology and ecosystem foundations. BYD supports customers with in-house expertise spanning vehicle development, batteries, charging infrastructure, energy storage and energy management. With the ETT 44 launch and dedicated commercial-vehicle sales and technical teams, BYD aims to strengthen its position as a comprehensive electrification partner in Europe.
In May 2026, BYD introduced Full Damage Coverage for its Urban Navigate on Autopilot function under the God's Eye driver assistance system in China. Following its Intelligent Parking coverage, the move made BYD the first automaker to offer dual coverage for advanced driver assistance features. As part of its “Intelligent Driving for All” strategy, BYD also made its God's Eye LiDAR version available as an option across its entire vehicle lineup. The company aims to reduce traffic accidents, enable ADAS to function as a “Super Driver” and use AI as a “Super Personal Assistant.”
BYD plans to invest more than RMB 100 billion in intelligent driving R&D. Building on the safety-focused approach behind its Blade Battery, the company is seeking to increase consumer confidence in ADAS through coverage programs while advancing proprietary technologies, including the XUANJI A3 chip and God's Eye system.
In March 2026, BYD introduced its self-developed FLASH Charging technology, capable of delivering up to 1,500kW through a single connector, alongside the second-generation Blade Battery. Developed over six years, the new battery underpins BYD's latest charging breakthrough and addresses a longstanding trade-off between charging speed and energy density. The second-generation Blade Battery increases energy density by 5% while substantially improving charging performance.
BYD achieved these improvements while maintaining the safety and durability associated with its lithium iron phosphate battery technology. Central to the breakthrough is the company's proprietary “FlashPass” Ion Transport System, designed to accelerate ion movement within the battery and improve charging efficiency. By combining higher energy density with significantly faster charging, BYD aims to reduce charging-related barriers to EV adoption. The FLASH Charging system and upgraded Blade Battery therefore represent key elements of the company's strategy to advance EV performance, convenience and broader market adoption.
BYD reported an 18% year-over-year increase in global sales to 440,293 units in August 2026, marking its fourth consecutive month of growth after eight months of declines, driven by a 134% surge in overseas sales to 189,466 vehicles.
Price Performance, Valuation and Estimates
BYD has underperformed the Zacks Automotive - Foreign industry in the last six months. Its shares have lost 22.4% compared to the industry’s decline of 9.7%.

From a valuation perspective, BYD appears overvalued. Going by its price/sales ratio, the company is trading at a forward sales multiple of 0.66, higher than the industry’s 0.57.
