Arkema Expands Shanghai R&D Center to Boost Innovation

Arkema S.A. ARKAY has officially opened the expansion of its Shanghai R&D Center in China, strengthening its capabilities to foster innovation, enable synergies within teams and increase engagement with customers in Asia. The investment aligns with the company's global research and development strategy.

The expansion increases laboratory space by around 20% and introduces new collaborative facilities, including an interactive showroom to showcase Specialty Materials solutions. The upgraded center will bring together Arkema’s expertise in the materials business and interaction with the local R&D ecosystem to jointly develop with customers and accelerate innovation in high-performance and sustainable materials.

Established in 2011 as Bostik's Asia Technology Center, the Shanghai facility has developed expertise in materials synthesis, formulation development and application validation. Its innovations are used in high-speed rail, food packaging and sustainable consumer goods. The expansion also aligns with Arkema's One Arkema strategy by strengthening the innovation ecosystem, including start-ups and emerging technology companies.

These investments are expected to reinforce Arkema's interaction with customers and support the development of solutions for high-growth markets, including new energy, electronics, mobility and sustainability. With Specialty Materials accounting for approximately 85% of its 2025 sales, the company's continued R&D investments support its strategic focus on becoming a world leader in Specialty Materials.

ARKAY shares have gained 4.2% in the past year compared with the industry’s 2.5% growth.
