GSK's New Drugs and Pipeline Hold the Key to Long-Term Growth

GSK plc’s GSK key growth story is the expansion of its newer specialty medicines and vaccines, which can help offset pressure from older products and strengthen its revenue base over the long term.

Blenrep (multiple myeloma), Exdensur (a long-acting treatment for severe asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps), Jemperli (cancer), Ojjaara (cancer), Apretude (long-acting HIV medicine), Arexvy (respiratory syncytial virus vaccine), Blujepa (uncomplicated urinary tract infection and uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhea) and Penmenvy (5-in-1 meningococcal vaccine) are among the key newer products.

So far in 2026, GSK has gained approval for Jideytro (zidesamtinib) for ROS1-positive NSCLC, an oral carbapenem antibiotic, Utebzi (tebipenem pivoxil) for complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs) and Lynavoy (linerixibat) for cholestatic pruritus associated with primary biliary cholangitis in the United States, which has added further growth opportunities.

All these recently launched products can build into meaningful revenue contributors for GSK. Particularly, Blenrep is expected to be a major growth driver over the next 3-4 years.

For long-term growth, GSK has several promising pipeline candidates. GSK is increasing R&D investment in promising new long-acting and specialty medicines in RI&I, Oncology and HIV areas. The company claims it has more than doubled the number of phase II and phase III assets with blockbuster potential since 2022.

Regulatory applications seeking approval of bepirovirsen for chronic hepatitis B and neladalkib, an ALK inhibitor for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), are under review in the United States and some other countries. FDA decisions on both are expected later this year.

Some key pipeline candidates in late-stage development are efimosfermin alfa for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis or MASH, velzatinib for second-line gastrointestinal stromal tumor and antibody-drug conjugates, risvutatug rezetecan and mocertatug rezetecan, for some cancer indications.

GSK is also developing innovative ultra-long-acting HIV regimens for treatment and prevention (also called PrEP), which can extend the dosing intervals of the injections. GSK expects to launch twice-yearly long-acting injectables for treatment and PrEP between 2028 and 2030. GSK is also conducting studies to evaluate the use of Blenrep combinations in early treatment lines through the DREAMM clinical program.

Overall, the commercial ramp-up of newer medicines, expansion into additional indications and pipeline progress could help GSK sustain growth and offset pressure on older products. Supported by its new product launches and robust pipeline progress, GSK expects sales to be more than £40 billion by 2031.

However, investors should monitor launch uptake, regulatory milestones and clinical results, as competition, development risks and upcoming patent expirations—particularly in HIV—could affect the company’s longer-term growth trajectory.

Competition for GSK’s Specialty Medicines

In the Specialty Medicines segment, most of GSK’s products are up against significant competition from small as well as large pharmaceutical companies like AstraZeneca AZN, Merck MRK, Sanofi SNY, Gilead, Pfizer, J&J and Novartis, among others.

Nucala faces increasing competition from biologics such as AstraZeneca’s Fasenra and Sanofi’s Dupixent. In HIV, GSK’s medicines face competition from Gilead and MRK’s drugs. AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Merck and Lilly are GSK’s key competitors in the oncology space.
