Segments and material period changes
- Business Solutions: Sales fell 14.8% to $273.1; gross margin rose to 21.9% from 19.4%. Lower notebook, display, and desktop sales were partly offset by stronger networking and server/storage sales.
- Enterprise Solutions: Sales declined 6.4% to $313.9; gross margin fell to 13.4% from 14.6%, reflecting mix and timing of low-margin projects. Software sales increased but did not offset declines in other categories.
- Public Sector Solutions: Sales increased 6.0% to $140.5 and gross margin improved to 14.5% from 13.1%. Federal sales rose 86.0%, partly offset by an 18.1% decline in state/local government and education sales.

- Operating cash flow was $19.5, supported by a $9.4 inventory reduction and increases in accounts payable and accrued liabilities; receivables and prepaid assets used cash. The prior-year operating cash outflow reflected working-capital investment, particularly inventory and receivables.

Outlook, commentary, and risks
- No quantitative revenue or earnings guidance is provided. Management expects cash on hand, operating cash generation, and available credit to meet requirements for the next 12 months.
- The company recorded $0.9 of restructuring and other charges, primarily for an involuntary headquarters workforce reduction. $0.3 of termination benefits remained unpaid at quarter-end. Management was evaluating additional restructuring for Q2 2023 and beyond.
- Management cited ongoing priorities of growing product and service revenue, improving gross margins, recruiting and retaining personnel, and controlling expenses while investing in IT and solution-selling capabilities. Service-engineer investment may weigh on results if service revenue growth does not offset added costs.
- Key disclosed risks include competition and price pressure, supplier dependence and manufacturers selling directly to customers, changes in IT delivery models, shipping disruptions and costs, personnel retention, cybersecurity, and macroeconomic conditions—including inflation, higher interest rates, and weaker customer IT spending.
- Legal matters and tax, employment, and other audits are described as ordinary-course items; management does not expect them to have a material adverse effect. The company reported no material change in market risks since year-end 2022.
Important facts for investors to verify
- Whether the sharp sales and operating-income declines persist, particularly in Business Solutions, and whether gross-margin gains can be sustained.
- Whether SG&A and restructuring costs stabilize as sales investments continue and possible further restructuring is assessed.
- Whether working-capital movements support operating cash flow; Q1 cash generation benefited from inventory reduction, while receivables and prepaid assets absorbed cash.
- Continued availability of the credit facility and covenant headroom if earnings weaken; management notes lower Adjusted EBITDA could constrain borrowing capacity.
- Execution and returns on service, IT, and sales investments, alongside developments in customer demand and vendor direct-sales activity.
