Material changes versus the prior comparable period
- Revenue growth was led by storage rental revenue, particularly revenue management, higher volume in selected markets and data center growth. Nine-month organic revenue growth was 6.3%, while acquisitions contributed 0.5 percentage points.
- Global RIM revenue increased 8.1% for the nine months, while segment Adjusted EBITDA increased 6.5%; its margin declined 70 basis points to 43.0% because of higher compensation and facilities costs.
- Global Data Center revenue increased 20.3% and Adjusted EBITDA increased 24.2% for the nine months. The segment margin improved 140 basis points to 44.1%, although data center churn was approximately 390 basis points.
- Corporate and Other revenue declined 26.3% for the nine months, primarily because of lower service revenue in asset lifecycle management, driven by component price declines. Corporate and Other Adjusted EBITDA losses increased to $214.6 million from $173.8 million.
- Operating expenses grew faster than revenue, reflecting higher facilities, labor, depreciation and amortization, and substantial Project Matterhorn costs.
- Interest expense increased $82.9 million to $434.1 million for the nine months, primarily due to higher average debt and higher interest rates.
- Other expense shifted from $38.2 million of other income in the prior-year period to $67.9 million of other expense in 2023. The change included a roughly $38.0 million loss from remeasuring Iron Mountain’s former Clutter JV interest.
