An $8 Billion Reason Why Regeneron Stock Is in Focus

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN) stock is in focus after the company announced an expanded global alliance with long-term partner Sanofi (SNY). REGN said it will receive $1 billion in upfront cash and stands to earn up to $7 billion in milestone payments, driving the total potential value of the expanded contract to about $8 billion.

At the time of writing, Regeneron stock is down about 13% versus its recent high.

Why the Sanofi Deal Matters for Regeneron Stock

The deal adds four key assets to the pair’s shared immunology portfolio, including REGN20423 — a promising long-acting IL-13 antibody — an IL-4xIL-13 bispecific antibody, and two additional preclinical candidates.

Sanofi and Regeneron will share development costs, commercialization expenses, and future profits evenly, significantly reducing REGN’s individual capital risk while accelerating pipeline progress.

For Regeneron shares, this massive cash infusion and shared cost structure is bullish as they bolster the firm’s balance sheet and de-risk its long-term R&D investments.

In short, the expanded deal strengthens Regeneron’s post-Eylea revenue runway and reinforces its market leadership in next-generation immunology treatments.

A 0.51% dividend yield makes REGN even more attractive as a long-term holding.

Where Options Data Suggest REGN Shares Are Headed

Despite the bullish Sanofi announcement, options traders believe REGN shares will likely remain under pressure in the near term.

The put-to-call ratio on contracts expiring mid-October sits at 2.30x currently, with a reading above 1.00x typically interpreted as bearish.

And the lower price on those options contracts, according to data from Barchart, is set at $714.63 at the time of writing, signaling potential downside of about 3.67% in the biotech stock over the next two weeks.

Even from a technical perspective, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals sits handily below its 20-day and 50-day moving averages (MAs), with an RSI in the mid-30s indicating intense selling pressure.

How Wall Street Recommends Playing Regeneron Pharmaceuticals

Wall Street analysts do not, however, share the derivatives market’s pessimism on REGN stock.

According to Barchart, the consensus rating on the biotech company sits at “Moderate Buy,” with the mean price target of about $856 indicating potential for a more than 15% rally from here.
