Should Investors Buy VG Stock for Its Strong LNG Growth Prospects?

Over the past year, Venture Global VG stock has rallied 34.7% compared with the industry's 33.5% growth. Its peers Viper Energy VNOM and CNX Resources CNX have gained 21.9% and 9.7%, respectively, during the same period. VG has also outperformed the S&P 500's 16% growth.

While price performance indicates a stock's attractiveness to some extent, it is wiser to closely examine the company's current business environment before offering any investment advice.

VG's LNG Capacity Expansion Supports Long-Term Growth

Venture Global's aggressive LNG capacity expansion strategy positions it to capitalize on growing international demand for natural gas while strengthening its production and earnings potential. The company is advancing several major projects that are expected to significantly increase its LNG export capacity over the next few years.

Venture Global expects Plaquemines Phase 1 to achieve commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by Phase 2 in mid-2027. Its CP2 project also remains on track to produce its first LNG in the second half of 2027. As of August 2026, engineering activities at CP2 were fully completed, while procurement and construction were 79% and 36% complete, respectively. These developments indicate steady progress toward increasing production capacity.

Venture Global is pursuing a 10-MTPA brownfield expansion at CP2, with a final investment decision targeted for early 2027 and first production expected in late 2028. The company is also targeting an investment decision for its initial Plaquemines expansion in the first half of 2027, with production anticipated to commence in 2029.

Together, these projects are expected to increase annualized production across Venture Global's first three projects to approximately 85 MTPA. Importantly, around 53 MTPA of capacity is already committed under long- and medium-term agreements, with the existing nameplate capacity of these projects fully contracted. This provides considerable revenue visibility while supporting the financing of future developments.

Capital Efficiency & Power Expansion Strengthen VG's Growth Prospects

Venture Global's focus on optimizing its capital structure and expanding into power infrastructure provides additional opportunities for long-term value creation. The company's financing initiatives are expected to lower capital costs and improve financial flexibility, supporting its substantial LNG development pipeline.

During 2026, Venture Global refinanced $5.3 billion in capital, generating expected annual interest and preferred coupon savings of more than $100 million. The company also repaid $1.4 billion in debt through July and secured $1.5 billion in vessel financing, backed by nine LNG carriers. These initiatives should reduce financing expenses, improve capital availability and strengthen its ability to fund future projects.

Venture Global increased its quarterly dividend 122% to 4 cents per share, reflecting management's confidence in the company's cash-generating capabilities.

Beyond LNG exports, Venture Global is exploring opportunities in power infrastructure to diversify its long-term growth prospects. In October 2026, the company entered agreements with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes supporting up to 16 additional 720-megawatt power islands. These agreements could facilitate the development of up to 10 gigawatts of compute capacity by the end of 2034.

The initiative builds on Venture Global's existing 4.5-gigawatt independent power generation platform. Its expertise in natural gas supply, modular power generation and large-scale infrastructure development could provide a competitive advantage in serving the growing power requirements of data centers.

Strong LNG Volumes & Operating Efficiency Aid VG's Profitability

Venture Global's growing LNG production volumes, favorable pricing conditions and scalable operating infrastructure are supporting significant improvements in financial performance. The company's ability to increase output while maintaining operating efficiency remains an important driver of profitability.

In the second quarter of 2026, Venture Global's LNG sales volumes increased 42% year over year to 466.4 trillion British thermal units (TBtu), while cargo exports rose to 127 from 89 in the prior-year period. Higher volumes helped revenues jump 48% to $4.58 billion, while income from operations more than doubled to $2.19 billion.

Consolidated adjusted EBITDA climbed 79% year over year to $2.49 billion, representing an adjusted EBITDA margin of approximately 54%. This substantial improvement indicates that the company's expanding production base is generating stronger earnings without a corresponding increase in operating costs.

Venture Global's modular liquefaction infrastructure also supports operational flexibility and production reliability. Its Calcasieu Pass facility exported 37 cargoes during the second quarter despite extensive scheduled turbine maintenance, exceeding contractual delivery obligations. Such operational resilience should help the company maintain asset utilization, limit production disruptions and protect margins as its LNG export footprint expands.

Reflecting stronger operating performance and favorable liquefaction fees, management raised its 2026 consolidated adjusted EBITDA guidance to $8.7-$9.1 billion from the previous projection of $8.2-$8.5 billion.

Moreover, with 91% of anticipated 2026 cargoes already contracted, Venture Global benefits from considerable near-term revenue visibility while retaining opportunities to capitalize on favorable pricing for its remaining volumes. Higher production, contractual coverage and operating leverage should collectively support the company's profitability and cash-flow generation.

Venture Global's discount to the industry average suggests potential valuation upside, particularly considering its expanding LNG production capacity, improving earnings profile and long-term growth opportunities.

Is it the Right Time to Bet on Venture Global Stock?

Venture Global's expanding LNG production capacity, strong operating performance and improving capital efficiency support its long-term growth prospects. Major projects, including Plaquemines and CP2, are expected to drive substantial volume growth, while long-term contracts provide earnings visibility.

Although project execution risks and LNG price volatility remain concerning, the company's robust earnings outlook and discounted valuation relative to the industry strengthen its investment appeal. As such, investors may consider buying Venture Global, which currently carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy), to capitalize on its expanding LNG portfolio and long-term earnings growth potential.
