E-commerce giant Amazon (AMZN) has revealed that its much-anticipated Prime Big Deal Days event will go live on Oct. 6 and end on Oct. 7. A fall counterpart to the company's summer Prime Day event, the upcoming event bears similarities to Prime Day in the form of exclusive access for Prime members.

“Once fall arrives, there's so much to get ready for — the hosting, the decorating, the holiday gifting — and Prime Big Deal Days makes it easy to check it all off while saving," said Vice President of North America Marketing and Prime Tech Carmen Nestares.

How Was Prime Big Deal Days 2025? — And What Should Investors Expect From 2026?

Amazon does not disclose the standalone numbers for its Prime Big Deal Days event. However, estimates from third parties can give us an idea.

One report from retail growth and intelligence platform Stackline pegged sales for the event at $11 billion in 2025, down marginally from the prior year. Interestingly, unit volumes supposedly grew in eight to 12 categories in the same period, with lower average selling prices (ASPs) ruining the party.

Market research platform Numerator went into greater detail on the numbers from 2025. Notable key metrics included average spend per order, which came to $45.42, while average household spend was $104.69. In terms of number of orders, 53% of households placed two or more orders during the event, while 10% of households reportedly placed five or more orders. Further, the top five categories of the 2025 event were Apparel & Shoes (with 26% of shoppers surveyed purchasing from the category), Household Essentials (26%), Beauty & Cosmetics (22%), Health & Wellness (21%), and Home Goods (21%). When it came to value, however, Electronics was a top category, generating “nearly $2 billion in event-week volume” according to Stackline.

The 2026 Prime Big Deal Days event is expected to follow a similar path. Early deals have included Amazon promoting discounts on Amazon devices and other products. Apart from electronics, kitchen appliance sales — given their potential dollar size — will be interesting to watch as consumers begin preparing for the holidays. Other categories to watch out for will be Beauty & Cosmetics and Apparel & Shoes, with Amazon particularly focusing on Halloween items, holiday decor, and early gift shopping.

On a broader basis, event sales will be a key indicator of the status of the U.S. consumer as consumers react to high inflation and the possibility of higher interest rates. Going deeper, Amazon's top categories in terms of sales and volume could also be a snapshot of where consumers are opting to spend — on essentials or discretionary items. While increasing sales in the former might act as a proxy for stress, higher sales in the latter area may signal that the U.S. consumer remains resilient.

Amazon's Amazing Q2

Amazon had a sensational second quarter of 2026, with both revenue and earnings handily beating consensus estimates. Net sales rose 20% year-over-year (YOY) to $200.6 billion. AWS, Amazon's cloud business, also continued to gather momentum with 37% YOY growth to $42.2 billion. While overall sales exceeded Wall Street's expectations by about $4 billion, AWS sales were higher by more than $2 billion versus expectations.

Meanwhile, earnings saw a massive jump to $5.75 per share from $1.68 per share in the year-ago period. Reported earnings also came in much higher than the consensus estimate of $1.82 per share, marking another earnings beat from the company.

Amazon showed strength in cash flows as well. The company reported net cash from operating activities of $45.4 billion in Q2, up 40% YOY. However, an increase in capital expenditures to $54.2 billion from $32.2 billion in the prior-year period resulted in free cash flow turning negative during the quarter. Free cash flow was -$7.6 billion, compared to an inflow of $18.2 billion in the previous year. Overall, the company closed the quarter with a cash balance of $78.2 billion.

For Q3, Amazon expects sales to be between $197 billion and $202 billion, or revenue growth of 9% to 12% YOY.

Finally, Amazon may be trading at overvalued levels, but the gap with the respective sector medians appears reasonable. Its forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is 31.5 times, its price-to-sales (P/S) ratio is 3.8 times, and its price-to-cash flow (P/CF) ratio is 18.9 times.

What Do Analysts Think of Amazon Stock?

Overall, analysts have a consensus “Strong Buy” rating for AMZN stock. Out of 57 analysts covering the stock, 48 have a “Strong Buy” rating, six have a “Moderate Buy” rating, and three analysts have a “Hold” rating. The mean target price of $327 denotes potential upside of 33% from current levels.
