Zooming in further, EBAY’s outperformance looks more pronounced compared to the Global X E-commerce ETF (EBIZ). The exchange-traded fund has declined about 13.6% over the past year. Moreover, EBAY’s returns on a YTD basis outshine the ETF’s 10.7% losses over the same time frame.

eBay outperformed driven by strong growth in its core marketplace, focus categories like trading cards and vehicles, and emerging lines such as live commerce and Depop. Double-digit GMV expansion, AI-powered listing tools, and trust initiatives like the Authenticity Guarantee further fueled momentum. Looking ahead, eBay plans to reinvest top-line strength into AI, shipping infrastructure, and C2C expansion to sustain growth.

On Oct. 28, EBAY shares closed up marginally after reporting its Q3 results. Its adjusted EPS of $1.51 topped Wall Street expectations of $1.43. The company’s revenue was $3.2 billion, topping Wall Street forecasts of $3.1 billion. EBAY expects full-year adjusted EPS in the range of $6.25 to $6.30, and revenue ranging from $12.6 billion to $12.7 billion.

For the current fiscal year, ending in December, analysts expect EBAY’s EPS to grow 13.6% to $4.75 on a diluted basis. The company’s earnings surprise history is mixed. It beat or matched the consensus estimate in three of the last four quarters while missing the forecast on another occasion.
