Operating expense reductions principally reflected lower mupadolimab trial and licensing costs, lower unallocated personnel and overhead, and lower G&A personnel and professional fees. The net loss also included a $1.0 million equity-method loss related to Angel Pharmaceuticals, versus $0.1 million a year earlier, partly offset by $0.1 million of related-party sublease income. Margins are not meaningful because the company had no revenue.
Q1 investing cash outflow was $25.6 million, primarily purchases of marketable securities; financing cash flow was zero. The $32.0 million decline in cash and cash equivalents largely reflects the transfer of funds into marketable securities as well as operating cash use. The company reported no debt; it had operating lease liabilities of $3.4 million and $9.3 million of non-cancellable 2022 drug-substance purchase commitments.

- No shares were sold under the ATM programs during Q1. At quarter-end, $18.9 million remained available under the 2020 agreement and $40.0 million under the 2021 agreement.

Outlook, management commentary and risks
Management said available cash, cash equivalents and short-term marketable securities were expected to fund planned operations for at least 12 months from issuance of the financial statements. However, Corvus does not expect current resources to fund all ongoing and planned clinical development through commercialization and expects to need additional capital. Equity financing could dilute shareholders; debt or collaboration financing could impose obligations or require relinquishing product rights. No specific financial guidance was provided.
- Pipeline plans: Corvus planned a randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 2 study of mupadolimab plus standard chemotherapy and pembrolizumab in approximately 150 patients with advanced NSCLC. It also planned a Phase 2 ciforadenant study with ipilimumab and nivolumab in approximately 60 patients with advanced renal-cell cancer. These are plans, not reported trial outcomes.
- Clinical evidence: Management cited interim mupadolimab observations in a Phase 1/1b study, including tumor regression in 7 of 16 evaluable NSCLC/HNSCC patients; none met RECIST partial-response criteria. These preliminary findings may change and are not evidence of established efficacy. CPI-818’s China trial enrolled its first patient in January 2022.
- Key risks: Clinical and regulatory uncertainty, possible adverse events or trial delays, reliance on third-party manufacturers and research organizations, and difficulty raising further capital. COVID-19 could disrupt enrollment, sites, supplies and operations. The company also noted potential China-U.S. policy and regulatory risks related to Angel Pharmaceuticals.
- Contingencies: Future licensing milestones and royalties are contingent and not recorded as balance-sheet liabilities. Corvus reported no material legal proceedings. It stated that disclosure controls were effective and that no material changes in internal control over financial reporting occurred during the quarter.

- Progress, enrollment, safety and final results for planned and ongoing mupadolimab, CPI-818 and ciforadenant trials; distinguish interim observations from confirmed outcomes.
- Clinical-trial and manufacturing commitments, including the $9.3 million drug-substance commitment and reliance on third-party suppliers.
- Remaining ATM capacity, potential dilution, and the economics and performance of the Angel Pharmaceuticals relationship.
- Potential unrecorded contingent milestone and royalty obligations under license agreements.
