Why Wedbush Is Betting Big on SK Hynix Stock After Earnings

South Korean memory chipmaker SK Hynix (SKHY) is off to an impressive start in the U.S. market, with its latest earnings report giving investors plenty of reason to take notice. The company reported third-quarter results on Oct. 28, posting record profits that beat estimates by a wide margin and announcing expansive dividends and share buybacks. Strong memory chip prices and rising shipments, driven by growing artificial intelligence (AI) demand, helped fuel the stellar quarter.

Wall Street is taking note, too. Wedbush just raised its price target on SK Hynix to 3 million South Korean won from 2.56 million won, reiterating an “Outperform” rating. Analysts pointed to stronger-than-expected DRAM and NAND pricing, higher shipments, and increased shareholder returns as reasons for optimism. DRAM and NAND prices both rose more than 20% sequentially, and the growth story may be far from over, with Wedbush expecting tight memory supply through 2030.

With record earnings and AI demand showing little sign of slowing, SK Hynix has plenty of momentum. But just how much upside does SKHY stock still offer? Let’s take a closer look.

About SK Hynix Stock

As the AI boom continues to reshape the semiconductor industry, investors have flocked to memory and storage stocks such as Micron Technology (MU) and SanDisk (SNDK). But another major AI memory player has been making waves, and until recently, it was largely out of reach for U.S. investors.

Headquartered in Icheon, South Korea, SK Hynix is one of the world’s largest memory chipmakers producing DRAM and NAND flash memory used in AI servers, data centers, smartphones, PCs, graphics cards, and enterprise storage systems. The firm is also a leading producer of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a critical component in next-generation AI accelerators as demand for AI computing continues to surge.

For years, U.S. investors had limited access to SK Hynix, whose shares traded exclusively on the Korea Exchange. That changed on July 10, when the company made its long-awaited U.S. debut by listing its American depositary receipts (ADRs) on the Nasdaq.

SK Hynix priced its ADRs at $149, raising $26.5 billion and marking the largest first-time U.S. listing ever by a foreign company. Now valued at $1.18 trillion by market capitalization, the memory chip giant has seen plenty of volatility in its U.S.-listed shares, but the broader trend has remained in the green. SKHY stock has climbed less than 1% over the past three months versus the S&P 500's ($SPX) gain of 2% over the same period. More recently, the rally has picked up steam, with shares surging 9% in just the past five trading sessions.

Inside SK Hynix's Q3 Earnings Report

SKHY stock hit the ground running on Oct. 28, surging 13% after the chipmaker delivered a blockbuster Q3 earnings report that beat Wall Street’s expectations. Fueled by booming demand for AI infrastructure, the company posted a record-breaking quarter, with revenue crossing 100 trillion won for the first time in its history.

Revenue reached 104.62 trillion won in Q3, up 32% from the previous quarter and an astonishing 328% year-over-year (YOY). The figure also comfortably topped Wall Street’s consensus estimate of 98.34 trillion won, underscoring just how strong memory demand has become.

Breaking down the results, DRAM sales benefited from a significant increase in server DDR5 shipments, while shipments of next-generation HBM4 memory began in earnest. In NAND, sales of 321-layer TLC enterprise solid-state drives (eSSDs) expanded, while demand for other data-center products grew across the board.

The momentum carried through to the bottom line. Operating profit reached 83.33 trillion won, jumping 38% sequentially and 632% YOY. The result also surpassed Wall Street’s consensus estimate of 76.72 trillion won. Operating margin climbed to an impressive 80%, compared with 47% in the year-ago quarter. Net income came in at 39.78 trillion won, up 216% YOY.

The balance sheet also strengthened considerably. At the end of Q3, cash and cash equivalents stood at 114.5 trillion won, up 26.5 trillion won from the previous quarter. Meanwhile, borrowings fell to 15.8 trillion won, lifting the company’s net cash position to 98.7 trillion won.

Shareholders received a major boost as well. SK Hynix unveiled an expanded shareholder return plan for fiscal 2026, targeting approximately 100 trillion won in total returns. The plan includes at least 30 trillion won in cash dividends and at least 60 trillion won in share repurchases and cancellations, including the 40 trillion won in buybacks announced previously. Through these measures, the company aims to fulfill its commitment to returning at least 50% of its free cash flow (FCF) to shareholders.

What Do Analysts Think About SKHY Stock?

Wall Street is overwhelmingly bullish on SKHY stock, with analysts awarding it a consensus “Strong Buy” rating. Of the 16 analysts covering the stock, 12 have a “Strong Buy” rating, two recommend a “Moderate Buy,” and two maintain a “Hold” rating.

The optimism is reflected in the price targets, too. The average price target of $257.45 points to roughly 73% potential upside from here, while the Street-high price target of $400 suggests the stock could climb as much as 168% from current levels.
