Elon Musk Is Selling a Telepathic Future: Can You Invest Before IPO?

Elon Musk has given investors a fresh reason to ask how to invest in Neuralink. On Oct. 30, he shared new brain-chip demos, including a thought-controlled Grok agent and speech sent into iPhone calls. For most retail investors outside the US, however, the answer is no.

Musk also repeated that Telepathy, Neuralink's first product, lets people communicate with computers or other humans by thinking. Its output bandwidth will vastly exceed the fastest human speech or typing in a few years, he added.

What Engineers Built in 72 Hours

The demos came from a 72-hour hackathon with a speech restoration study participant, which Musk's post quoted. For the Grok feature, the user thinks of saying "Hey Neuralink" along with a task.

The call feature relies on Bloom, the team's new mobile speech app. The user's thought-based speech then goes straight into the call's audio, the team says.

Neuralink’s first product is called Telepathy.

Beyond speech, the Neuralink co-founder hopes the technology can route brain signals to the limbs. That could help people use their hands and walk again.

Neuralink's devices still lack FDA approval, and Musk's past timelines for the company have slipped. Even so, the company reached a $9 billion valuation in its latest funding round. That price tag explains why many retail traders want to invest in Neuralink.

Can You Invest in Neuralink Before an IPO?

Neuralink is private, so its shares do not trade on any stock exchange. That leaves few good options. Pre-IPO marketplaces sell stakes in private firms, but usually only to accredited investors.

ARK Venture Fund (ARKVX), run by ARK Invest, is the main regulated route for ordinary investors. The fund holds a Neuralink stake and is open to all US investors. However, ARK says the fund is not currently available to international investors.

That pushes many retail investors outside the US toward crypto products, which carry far higher risk. Solana-based PreStocks lists a Neuralink token, one of a growing number of pre-IPO tokens. The token jumped to a record high around the time of Musk's post, before giving back part of the gain.

Still, its market cap is only around $1 million. At that size, a few trades can move the price sharply, which also makes it vulnerable to manipulation. PreStocks says its tokens are backed by exposure to company shares through special purpose vehicles. BeInCrypto could not independently verify that claim. Either way, holders do not own Neuralink stock or have shareholder rights. There is also no sign the company has endorsed the product.

Copycat memecoins using the Neuralink name add another risk, a pattern seen before. They have no link to the company or to PreStocks. Anyone who wants to invest in Neuralink through the PreStocks token should therefore check the contract address first. Similar pre-IPO products are spreading, as Binance Wallet also plans pre-IPO token sales, again without shareholder rights. Until Neuralink lists its shares, most investors outside the US have no regulated way in.
