Quarterly sales increased 16% year over year, driven by broad-based demand, particularly from semiconductor customers amid high fab utilization and increased capital spending. Sales rose 5% sequentially from Q2 2017. For the nine-month period, sales increased 14%. Management attributed higher gross margins mainly to improved factory utilization, favorable mix, and the absence of prior-year i2M qualification and start-up costs; price erosion partly offset these improvements.
Q3 sales by segment were SCEM $124.5 million, MC $116.1 million, and AMH $105.0 million. Segment profit was $34.6 million, $44.0 million, and $16.9 million, respectively. For the first nine months, sales increased across all three segments; AMH segment profit declined 4% to $54.7 million despite higher sales, reflecting mix, pricing pressure, and impairment and severance charges.

The filing states that ordinary-course legal matters were not expected to have a material adverse effect.
- Management reported effective disclosure controls as of September 30, 2017, with no material change in internal control over financial reporting during the quarter.
