Perspective Therapeutics, Inc. annual report, FY2022

Filing identity and reporting period

Important metadata discrepancy: The supplied filing is Isoray, Inc.’s Form 10-K, not a Perspective Therapeutics filing. It reports the fiscal year ended June 30, 2022 (FY2022), was signed September 28, 2022, and includes FY2022 fourth-quarter results. It is not a 2021 Q4 report. Isoray’s core business was manufacturing and selling Cesium-131 brachytherapy products for cancer treatment.

FY2022 sales growth reflected a 23% increase in “other” applications, particularly brain cancer and GammaTile-related sales, and price increases; prostate sales rose about 3%. Prostate brachytherapy remained 75% of revenue. Increased labor, isotope and freight costs, unused isotope, and depreciation contributed to higher cost of sales and lower gross margin. R&D expense rose to $2.582 million from $1.427 million; general and administrative expense rose to $6.621 million from $4.691 million.

For FY2022 Q4, net revenue was $2.505 million, gross profit $0.926 million, and net loss $2.078 million. The comparable FY2021 Q4 figures were $2.710 million, $1.346 million, and $1.061 million, respectively.

Liquidity, debt and cash flow

At June 30, 2022, cash and cash equivalents were $55.890 million (plus $0.182 million restricted cash), versus $63.828 million a year earlier. Working capital was $57.063 million and the current ratio was 26.18. Total liabilities were $3.162 million, including lease liabilities and an asset retirement obligation; the filing reports no borrowings or other debt. Cash declined by $7.938 million during FY2022. Investing cash use was $0.284 million and financing provided $0.056 million. Inventory increased, including $2.269 million of non-current enriched barium inventory intended for Cesium-131 production.

Outlook, material developments and risks

  • Management said existing cash was expected to fund projected operating needs for the next 12 months. It targeted 25% revenue growth in FY2023; if that growth target and continued growth were achieved, management estimated cash-flow break-even in three to four years. These are expectations, not assurances.
  • Cesium-131 supply was concentrated in Russian reactors. A reactor outage temporarily halted customer shipments from mid-August to early September 2022; regular shipping resumed by September 7. The company had not received isotope from a domestic supplier since January 2019 and did not expect a new reactor source online in FY2023.
  • Customer concentration was significant: the largest physician-practice/facility group represented 27.9% of FY2022 sales, GT Medical Technologies 14.2%, and another customer about 6.3%. GT sales exceeded 10% of revenue in FY2021 and FY2022.
  • On September 27, 2022, Isoray agreed to acquire Viewpoint Molecular Targeting in an all-stock merger. Viewpoint shareholders would own 49% of the combined company on a fully diluted basis. Closing remained subject to approvals and other conditions. The filing also disclosed the medical director’s resignation notice on September 20, 2022.
  • COVID-19 effects, hospital staffing constraints, competition, reimbursement uncertainty and reliance on a single product remained risks. The company reported no legal proceedings to disclose. The auditor issued an unqualified opinion and identified no critical audit matters; management said disclosure controls and internal control over financial reporting were effective.

Important facts for investors to verify

  1. Confirm the issuer and period: this is Isoray’s FY2022 10-K, not Perspective Therapeutics’ 2021 Q4 filing.
  2. Review the full audited statements and notes, particularly operating cash use, inventory valuation and the enriched-barium supply arrangements.
  3. Assess whether management’s FY2023 25% sales-growth target and cash runway assumptions remain achievable given losses, margin compression and Russian isotope dependence.
  4. Check the status and final terms of the Viewpoint merger, including approvals, dilution and integration plans.
  5. Track customer concentration, the medical director’s departure, GammaTile sales, and reimbursement and market adoption trends.
