Gold bounced off the 4,155 session low and rallied back up into an intraday supply pocket near 4,176 — the same area that capped the earlier swings around 4,179–4,180. Price pushed into the zone and stalled, firing the Sell. This is a scalp short off supply: fade the recovery into resistance, target the recent demand shelf where buyers last stepped in.
Why this setup works — three confluences:
- Supply rejection at intraday resistance. The 4,176–4,180 band has repeatedly capped price through the session. The recovery ran straight back into it and stalled — the reaction printed on the tap, giving a tight, defined ceiling to lean risk against.
- Recovery into resistance, not breakout. The move off 4,155 is a corrective bounce back to the top of the intraday range, not a trend break. Selling into the boundary keeps risk small and gives clean room back down through the range.
- Demand target below. The 4,164 shelf is where price based before the last push and sits as the logical draw on a rotation lower. Defined risk above supply, clean structure to book into.
Trade management:
- Entry: 4,176 (rejection off supply)
- SL: 4,180 (above the zone)
- TP1: 4,169 — take 50% off, move stop to breakeven
- TP2: 4,164 — 100% exit at the demand shelf
- R:R: ~3:1 to full target
Invalidation:
An M5 close back above 4,180. That reclaims the supply band that's held all session — buyers break the ceiling, thesis dead, just out.
The lesson:
On the lower timeframes, the levels that held all day are the ones worth trading against. When a session builds a clear resistance band and price keeps getting rejected there, the disciplined scalp is to fade the retest — not to guess a breakout. Tight stop above the ceiling, clean target at the shelf below, and let the range pay you while it holds.
