Is Everest Group Stock Underperforming the Dow?

With a market cap of $14.4 billion, Everest Group, Ltd. (EG) is a global underwriting company providing property, casualty, and specialty reinsurance and insurance solutions. Companies worth more than $10 billion are generally labeled as “large-cap” stocks and Everest Group fits this criterion perfectly. With a 50-year track record, Everest emphasizes disciplined underwriting, capital management, and risk management across markets worldwide.

Everest Group shares fell 4.7% following its Q2 2026 results on Jul. 29 as investors focused on the 11.8% decline in operating revenue to $3.96 billion and operating earnings of $14.85 per share fell 14.5% year-over-year. Core underwriting remained under pressure, with underwriting income down 29.2% to $317 million and the combined ratio worsening 300 basis points to 90%, reflecting higher catastrophe losses and underwriting expenses. Sentiment was further weighed by a 19.4% drop in gross written premiums to $3.77 billion, a 12.6% decline in net premiums earned, and net investment income falling 1.7% to $523 million as alternative investment returns weakened.

In comparison, rival SiriusPoint Ltd. (SPNT) has outpaced EG stock. SPNT stock has returned 14.3% YTD and 41.4% over the past 52 weeks.

Despite the stock’s underperformance over the past year, analysts remain moderately optimistic about its prospects. EG stock has a consensus rating of “Moderate Buy” from 19 analysts in coverage, and the mean price target of $404.82 suggests a premium of 8.4% to current levels.
