Temporary Weakness in Intellia Stock Seems Like a Buying Opportunity

Last week, Anthropic came out with an update that its AI model Claude had “autonomously discovered a novel enzyme system that is associated with an array of DNA repeats, a pattern reminiscent of CRISPR.” It didn’t take long for gene-editing stocks to decline on this news. Shares of Intellia Therapeutics (NTLA), Beam Therapeutics (BEAM), CRISPR Therapeutics (CRSP), and Prime Medicine (PRME) all declined on the release, among other names.

Developments related to Anthropic have already caused jitters across multiple industries this year. For example, the launch of Claude Code Security spooked cybersecurity stocks earlier in 2026, while Opus 4.6 caused a knee-jerk reaction among SaaS stocks. However, in both cases, these impacted stocks recovered after initial negative reactions. Similar to cybersecurity and SaaS stocks, the negative reaction among gene-editing companies is likely temporary. That means investors may actually want to consider some of these names for accumulation.

Importantly, Anthropic also shared these findings early to demonstrate Claude’s capabilities. Therefore, the findings may still be years away from being clinically relevant — and in turn unlikely to undermine years of progress already made by gene-editing companies.

About Intellia Therapeutics Stock

Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Intellia is a biopharmaceutical company focused on revolutionizing medicine leveraging CRISPR gene editing and other core technologies. Through its expertise in CRISPR-based gene editing, oligonucleotides, and lipid nanoparticles, Intellia has developed novel product candidates. These include lonvoguran ziclumeran (Lonvo-z) for the treatment of hereditary angioedema and nexiguran ziclumeran (Nex-z) for the treatment of transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR). Having just completed Phase 3, the launch of Lonvo-z is expected in the first half of 2027.

Furthermore, Intellia is focused on a broader range of severe diseases with additional clinical and preclinical product candidates. Some potential early-stage clinical candidates are for conditions like hemophilia B and acute myeloid leukemia.

With commercialization due and significant investments in the clinical pipeline, NTLA stock has remained largely sideways for the past six months.

Potential Catalysts in 2027

In terms of commercialization, Intellia Therapeutics has made significant progress. The Biologics License Application (BLA) for Lonvo-z has been completed, and U.S. approval and commercial launch are expected in 2027. Lonvo-z could therefore be a key catalyst for stock upside in the next 12 to 18 months.

In terms of addressable market, the global hereditary angioedema market is reportedly expected to reach $5.96 billion by 2032. As of 2025, North America also had an estimated 36.5% share of that total addressable market (TAM). Therefore, the potential is significant once Lonvo-z is commercialized.

Intellia's Nex-z candidate is also in the late-stage clinical pipeline. According to the company, there are 250,000 to 500,000 ATTR patients globally, while the global ATTR market is expected to swell to as much as $16.8 billion by 2030. This is another potential revenue catalyst for the company.

It’s also worth noting that Intellia’s existing cash resources are likely to fund operations into 2028. This excludes any potential revenue from Lonvo-z. Therefore, there is no immediate risk of equity dilution.

Of course, as revenue starts to flow, Intellia will have higher financial flexibility to pursue a deeper clinical pipeline. That should also help ensure further growth catalysts in the future.

What Do Analysts Say About NTLA Stock?

The mean price target of $23.18 represents potential upside of 103% from current levels. Further, the most bullish price target of $61 suggests that Intellia Therapeutics stock could climb as much as 435% from here.
