Anthropic Targets $2 Trillion IPO Before Thanksgiving. Here’s Why $518 Billion May Be the Number That Matters Most.

Anthropic, the AI developer behind the Claude assistant, has issued invitations for an October 14 investor gathering at its San Francisco headquarters — effectively firing the starting gun on what could become the largest initial public offering (IPO) in history, with prospective investors pegging a fair valuation between $1.8 trillion and $2 trillion.

That range would surpass SpaceX's (SPCX) record-setting $1.77 trillion listing in June, a threshold that has galvanized institutional interest but also sharpened scrutiny of the staggering financial commitments underpinning Anthropic's growth.

A Pre-Thanksgiving Debut on the Nasdaq

The formal roadshow could launch as early as the week of November 9, positioning the company to begin trading on the Nasdaq before the Thanksgiving holiday on November 26. Morgan Stanley (MS), Goldman Sachs (GS), and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) are leading the offering, which is expected to raise approximately $100 billion.

The timeline represents a modest delay from earlier expectations of a summer debut, but Anthropic remains committed to completing the listing no later than year-end.

Twelve-Fold Revenue Growth — and an $8 Billion Operating Loss

Anthropic's 2025 revenue surged twelve-fold to approximately $4.6 billion from $386 million the prior year, with annualized revenue reportedly reaching $65 billion by July 2026 and expected to exceed $110 billion by year-end. The company posted an operating loss exceeding $8 billion in 2025, with a headline net loss of nearly $42 billion, though more than $34 billion of that figure reflected non-cash fair-value adjustments to liabilities rather than operational cash burn.

Anthropic turned positive on an adjusted operating income basis in the second quarter of 2026, a milestone that will likely anchor its investor pitch.

$518 Billion in Commitments Is the Buried Number

The figure that deserves far more attention than the headline valuation is $518 billion — the approximate total of Anthropic's future cloud, computing, and infrastructure obligations, nearly all of which are non-cancellable.

Those commitments include a $15 billion annual arrangement with SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center, a $44.6 billion cloud agreement with Nscale, and a lending facility of up to $42 billion from Broadcom (AVGO) to finance chip leasing.

Customer concentration compounds the risk, with just two unnamed customers accounting for roughly 25% of 2025 revenue and many large accounts operating without long-term contracts.

The Counterpoint: A Brutal 2026 IPO Market and Regulatory Headwinds

Newly listed stocks outside of SpaceX and SK Hynix (SKHY) have delivered a weighted-average loss of 4% in 2026, sharply underperforming the S&P 500 Index ($SPX) 12% gain and the Nasdaq 100's ($IUXX) 20% advance.

OpenAI has postponed its own IPO, with CEO Sam Altman calling a 2026 listing "ill-advised" amid AI safety concerns, and is instead pursuing a private round targeting a $1.4 trillion valuation. Both companies face heightened scrutiny from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and public anxiety following high-profile hacking incidents involving autonomous AI agents.

Anthropic's own prospectus dedicates nearly a third of its pages to risk factors, including warnings that AI could pose "catastrophic or existential" dangers.

Why Investors Should Circle Oct. 14 on the Calendar

The October 14 investor day will give institutional buyers their first formal look at Anthropic's senior management and strategy, setting the stage for the roadshow in November.

Anthropic is betting that its unique position as the first pure-play frontier AI lab available to public investors will generate sufficient demand to absorb the offering's historic scale — but with $518 billion in non-cancellable obligations ticking in the background, the margin for a revenue stumble is essentially zero.
