GEHC Launches CareIntellect AI Tool to Optimize Hospital Operations

GE HealthCare Technologies Inc. GEHC recently introduced CareIntellect for Operations, an AI-powered Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application that enables health systems to anticipate capacity challenges up to 72 hours ahead and proactively manage emerging operational bottlenecks. The Queen’s Health Systems and Duke Health will be the first health systems to implement the application.

CareIntellect for Operations is part of GE HealthCare’s CareIntellect family of clinical and operational applications, which use a common cloud-first infrastructure. The application runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and is available directly from GE HealthCare and through the AWS Marketplace.

Per GE HealthCare management, CareIntellect for Operations is designed to help health systems identify where operational pressure is building and determine the appropriate next steps. The solution combines patient and operational data with proprietary AI models to provide predictive insights and workflow-connected recommendations, supporting efforts to optimize resources and manage capacity at critical decision points.

GEHC Stock Trend Following the News

Following the announcement, GEHC stock lost 0.3% at yesterday’s close. Year to date, shares of the company have fallen 21.9% compared with the industry’s 21.2% decline. However, the S&P 500 has risen 11.1% in the same timeframe.

The launch of CareIntellect expands GE HealthCare’s portfolio of AI-enabled SaaS applications for health systems and could support further adoption of its digital healthcare solutions. The ability to forecast operational constraints and recommend actions across capacity and throughput may help health systems improve resource utilization and address bottlenecks proactively, creating additional opportunities for GEHC in healthcare technology.

GEHC currently has a market capitalization of $29.02 billion.

More on CareIntellect for Operations

CareIntellect for Operations analyzes hundreds of patient- and operational-level data points, including bed availability, patient delays, staffing, wait times and ancillary services. It provides unit-, department- and enterprise-level views of emerging constraints and is designed to help operational leaders address areas such as discharge, imaging, transfers and capacity.

The application uses two proprietary GEHC AI models. The Pressure Forecast model combines historical hospital operations data with real-time information from electronic medical records (EMRs) and other resource management systems to predict potential constraints across hospitals, departments and units up to 72 hours ahead.

The Estimated Day of Discharge model analyzes longitudinal patient data to estimate when individual patients are likely to be discharged. These estimates are updated hourly as new information becomes available, while recommended actions and prioritized workflows are surfaced to help teams mitigate emerging operational pressure.

The Queen’s Health Systems and Duke Health, serving as the first clinical evaluation sites, will provide frontline feedback to inform future enhancements. CareIntellect for Operations also builds on more than two decades of GE HealthCare’s hospital operations expertise, including its Command Center software, which is used by nearly 500 hospitals and medical facilities globally.

Industry Prospects Favoring the Market

Going by the data provided by Markets and Markets, the global AI in hospital operations market was valued at $7.51 billion in 2025 and is expected to witness a CAGR of 27.9% through 2030.

Factors such as workforce shortages, rising administrative burdens and the growing need to improve hospital operational efficiency while maintaining quality of care are expected to drive market growth. The increasing adoption of AI-based predictive and decision-support solutions could further support demand for technologies aimed at optimizing capacity, patient flow and resource utilization.
