Can Island Gold District Boost Alamos Gold's Long-Term Growth?

Alamos Gold Inc.’s AGI Island Gold District produced 128,700 ounces of gold in the first half of 2026, up 4% year over year. This includes a record second-quarter production 2026 of 67,500 ounces.

Strong performance from the Island Gold District offset lower production at the Young-Davidson mine, helping Alamos Gold produce 130,600 ounces of gold in the second quarter of 2026. The figure came in line with the company’s revised quarterly guidance of 130,000-135,000 ounces.

Located in Ontario, Canada, the Island Gold District consists of the Island Gold and Magino mines with 8.2 million ounces of proven and probable gold reserves. In February 2026, Alamos Gold conducted an Expansion Study on the Island Gold District operation to support an increase in mining rates. The operation is expected to drive production to more than 530,000 ounces per year for 10 years post-expansion at some of the lowest costs in the industry.

In the first quarter of 2026, the company completed the shaft sinking to its planned depth of 1,381 meters. It is now focused on shaft equipping and bottom infrastructure development throughout 2026. The commissioning of the shaft is expected to support a further increase in underground mining rates in 2027.

In the second quarter of 2026, underground mining rates at Island Gold District increased to average a record 1,550 tons per day. The Magino mine’s milling rates also increased in the quarter to average a record 8,900 tons per day. The ongoing ramp-up of production from the Island Gold District will further aid performance in the second half of 2026.

Island Gold District is on track to achieve 290,000-310,000 ounces of gold in 2026. AGI’s production is expected to be around one million ounces annually by 2030. The company expects the Island Gold District to be a key driver of this growth over the next several years.

Other Miners With Operations in Canada

Agnico Eagle Mines Limited’s AEM LaRonde mine in Quebec is one of Canada’s largest operating gold mines by gold reserves and has provided the company’s foundation for domestic and international expansion. Agnico Eagle Mines generated revenues of $3.8 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up 35% year over year.

Agnico Eagle Mines’ payable gold production was 855,816 ounces in the reported quarter, down 1.2% from 866,029 ounces in the prior-year quarter. For 2026, Agnico Eagle expects gold production near the lower end of its guidance of 3.3-3.5 million ounces.

Newmont Corporation’s NEM North America segment has operations in Mexico, Canada and the United States’ Colorado and Nevada. Newmont has recently received key regulatory approvals from the Province of British Columbia for its Red Chris Block Cave Project, reaching a milestone in the planned transformation of the Red Chris Mine from an open-pit operation to a large-scale underground block-cave mine.

The newly approved block-cave development will enable access to deeper ore bodies that cannot be economically mined through surface operations. The transition is expected to extend the mine's life into the mid-2040s. The mine expansion could boost Canada's annual copper production by roughly 15%.

Newmont’s revenues for the second quarter were $6.12 billion, up 15.1% from the prior-year quarter. Newmont reported 13% year-over-year and 1% sequential declines in attributable gold production to 1.29 million ounces. Newmont remains on track to achieve its previously announced 2026 guidance. The company expects attributable gold production of 5.26 million ounces.
