Material changes and business developments
- JAKAFI net product revenue increased 7% to $580.0 million, primarily on higher patient demand and price, partly offset by higher deductions and lower-than-normal channel inventory.
- OPZELURA revenue increased to $56.6 million from $12.8 million, reflecting increased demand and expanded coverage. Co-pay assistance, Medicaid utilization and the timing of refills affected the quarter.
- Royalty revenue declined mainly because OLUMIANT royalties fell to $34.2 million from $48.1 million, including lower sales for COVID-19 treatment and unfavorable foreign exchange. JAKAVI royalties increased to $76.7 million from $70.9 million.
- SG&A growth reflected OPZELURA launch promotion and the expansion of the dermatology commercial organization. R&D growth reflected pipeline investment, including late-stage development.
- Operating cash flow turned negative, principally because accounts payable declined by $221.9 million; management attributed the year-over-year cash-flow decrease primarily to working-capital changes.
Outlook, risks and unusual items
- The filing provides no numerical revenue or earnings guidance. Management expects cash resources and the revolving facility to cover needs for the foreseeable future, while noting that cash requirements depend on development, commercialization, legal, facility and strategic investment spending.
- In March 2023, the FDA issued a complete response letter for once-daily ruxolitinib extended-release tablets, identifying additional approval requirements. Incyte said it would work with the FDA on next steps.
- Two Phase III LIMBER studies of ruxolitinib plus parsaclisib were discontinued after interim analyses indicated they were unlikely to meet their primary endpoint; the decision was not attributed to safety. Incyte also discontinued certain other programs, including parsaclisib in myelofibrosis and warm hemolytic anemia.
- ZYNYZ received FDA accelerated approval in March 2023 for certain adults with Merkel cell carcinoma. A $15 million related regulatory milestone payment to MacroGenics was capitalized as an intangible asset.
- A contract dispute with Novartis affects payment of accrued JAKAFI royalties: $276.9 million was accrued at March 31, 2023, with payment dependent on the dispute’s outcome. Verify the status and potential resolution of this matter.
- Key disclosed risks include reliance on JAKAFI, payer coverage and pricing pressure, concentrated specialty-pharmacy and wholesaler channels, clinical and regulatory setbacks, competition and potential generic entry, manufacturing and supplier dependence, and collaboration disputes. Incyte also reported that U.S. income tax payments would increase significantly in 2023, partly because prior-year tax credit carryforwards had been fully used.
- Investment fair values and contingent consideration affect reported results: the quarter included a $5.3 million unrealized investment loss and a $6.2 million loss from remeasurement of acquisition-related contingent consideration. Management reported effective disclosure controls and no material changes to internal control over financial reporting.
