Material Changes Versus the Prior Comparable Period

  • Gross margin improved 180 basis points in Q3 and 130 basis points year to date, driven by Comprehensive Continuous Improvement savings and favorable product mix, particularly in industrial operations.

  • Operating cash flow declined $49.9 million year to date, primarily because of higher inventories, including inventory accumulated before SAP implementation in Asia and higher raw-material costs.
  • Interest expense declined to $12.4 million from $12.8 million in Q3 and to $37.0 million from $40.2 million year to date, reflecting lower average debt and short-term interest rates.
