What Are Wall Street Analysts' Target Price for M&T Bank Stock?

Valued at a market cap of $34.7 billion, M&T Bank Corporation (MTB) is a financial holding company whose principal banking subsidiary, M&T Bank, provides a broad range of banking products and services across the eastern United States. Its branch and ATM network spans from Maine to Virginia and Washington, D.C., and it offers trust-related services in select U.S. and international markets through Wilmington Trust-affiliated companies and M&T Bank.

Shares of the Buffalo, New York-based company have outpaced the broader market over the past 52 weeks. MTB stock has increased 20.6% over this time frame, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPXhas returned 18.8%. Moreover, shares of the company are up 19.8% on a YTD basis, compared to SPX’s 12.2% gain.

Focusing more closely, shares of M&T Bank have outperformed the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLF8.5% rise over the past 52 weeks and 6.3% YTD return.

M&T Bank shares rose 2.8% after the company reported Q2 2026 results on Jul. 15, with net income available to common shareholders rising to $781 million, or $5.32 per share. The improvement was driven by 4.6% growth in net interest income to $1.79 billion, an 8-basis-point expansion in net interest margin to 3.7%, and higher non-interest income of $740 million, including trust income rising to $197 million. Credit quality and lending trends also supported sentiment, as the provision for credit losses declined to $120 million and loans grew to $141.4 billion.

For the fiscal year ending in December 2026, analysts expect M&T Bank’s EPS to grow nearly 13% year-over-year to $19.43. The company’s earnings surprise history is promising. It beat the consensus estimates in each of the last four quarters. 

Among the 21 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a “Hold.” That’s based on four “Strong Buy” ratings, one “Moderate Buy,” 15 “Holds,” and one “Strong Sell.”

This configuration is slightly less bullish than three months ago, with five “Strong Buy” ratings on the stock.

On Jul. 16, RBC Capital raised M&T Bank’s price target to $255 and maintained an “Outperform” rating.

The mean price target of $257.88 represents a 6.6% premium to MTB’s current price levels. The Street-high price target of $300 suggests a 24% potential upside.
