Ferguson has underperformed due to persistent weakness in its residential end markets, with subdued housing activity and soft repair and maintenance demand weighing on its core business. Concerns over muted growth, weaker incremental margins, and higher debt following the FloWorks acquisition have further pressured the stock despite strength in non-residential markets and large capital projects.

In comparison, rival W.W. Grainger, Inc. (GWW) has outpaced FERG stock. GWW stock has returned 27.2% on a YTD basis and 26.5% over the past 52 weeks.

Despite the stock’s underperformance, analysts remain moderately optimistic about its prospects. FERG stock has a consensus rating of “Moderate Buy” from 23 analysts' coverage, and the mean price target of $290.45 is a premium of 30.3% to current levels.
