Evergy’s Quarterly Earnings Preview: What You Need to Know

Kansas City, Missouri-based Evergy, Inc. (EVRG) is a regulated electric utility providing clean, safe, and reliable electricity to 1.7 million customers through its operating subsidiaries. With a market capitalization of about $19.5 billion, the company invests in renewable energy, grid modernization, and innovative technologies while supporting electric vehicle infrastructure and delivering long-term value to customers and shareholders.

EVRG is set to report its Q3 earnings on Thursday, November 5, 2026, before the market opens. Ahead of the release, analysts expect the company to report diluted EPS of $2.27, up 11.8% from $2.03 in the year-ago quarter. EVRG has surpassed Wall Street's EPS estimates in two of the past four trailing quarters while missing estimates in the other two.

For fiscal 2026, analysts expect the company to report EPS of $4.26, up 11.2% from $3.83 in fiscal 2025. Its EPS is projected to increase another 7% year over year to $4.56 in fiscal 2027.

EVRG stock has gained 8.4% over the past 52 weeks, trailing the S&P 500 Index ($SPX), which returned 13.1%, but outperforming the State Street Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLU), which plunged 5.8% during the same period.

Evergy’s mixed performance reflects higher operating costs that partially offset growth in regulated investment recovery and electricity demand. In its August 6 report, the company reported second-quarter 2026 adjusted EPS of $0.88, up 7.3% year over year but below analysts’ expectations of $0.91. Revenue reached approximately $1.5 billion, supported by weather-normalized demand growth and higher revenue from large customers. However, increased operations and maintenance expenses, along with higher depreciation and amortization costs, partially offset these gains.

Despite the quarterly earnings miss, Evergy reaffirmed its full-year adjusted EPS guidance of $4.14 to $4.34, reflecting its continued confidence in its financial outlook. Nevertheless, higher operating costs and the lack of an upward revision to its guidance may temper investor enthusiasm, even as the company benefits from rising electricity demand and ongoing infrastructure investments.

Analysts remain somewhat bullish on EVRG, with the stock earning a consensus "Moderate Buy" rating. Among the 14 analysts covering the stock, eight recommend a "Strong Buy," one rates it a "Moderate Buy," while five suggest a "Hold." The average price target of $89.92 implies a potential upside of 6.5% from the current share price.
