BASFY Adds Low-Emission PU Catalyst to Its Amine Catalyst Portfolio

BASF SE’s BASFY Intermediates unit has announced an expansion of its amine catalyst portfolio with the introduction of Lupragen BisDMAPU, a low-emission catalyst designed for flexible polyurethane (PU) foam applications. The product will be available globally under the Lupragen trademark and is aimed at manufacturers’ growing demand for emission-optimized flexible foams.

Lupragen BisDMAPU supports both gelling and blowing reactions, enabling reliable foam formation and dimensional stability. Its low volatility and low odor make it suitable for applications requiring low-VOC performance. The catalyst is designed to manufacture flexible PU foams, including slabstock and molded foams used in furniture, mattresses and automotive interiors. It can also be used in reactive hotmelt PU adhesives, two-component epoxy systems and cationic polymers.

This new catalyst complements BASF’s Lupragen N 208, introduced in December 2025, and further strengthens its portfolio of modern, low-VOC amine catalysts. The launch highlights BASFY’s longstanding experience in producing urea compounds in Ludwigshafen and its backward-integrated production setup, which supports reliable supply.

PU catalysts facilitate reactions between isocyanate and polyol, while catalyst selection helps control the balance between gelling and blowing reactions. With its broad amine catalyst portfolio, BASF is positioned to support customers seeking emission-optimized polyurethane solutions.

BASFY shares have gained 20.4% in the past year against the industry’s 2.7% decline.
