Urban Outfitters' Brand Momentum Sets the Stage for Continued Growth

Urban Outfitters Inc. URBN is building brand momentum through compelling assortments, targeted marketing and stronger customer engagement. Free People’s fashion appeal and FP Movement’s activewear innovation are driving demand, while sharper merchandise execution supports Urban Outfitters’ recovery. Anthropologie’s encouraging fall product response and Nuuly’s expanding rental offering provide additional growth opportunities across the portfolio.

Second-quarter fiscal 2027 sales rose 10.4% year over year to a record $1.67 billion. Retail comparable sales increased 6.2%, with every retail brand posting gains and both stores and digital channels contributing. Wholesale sales also advanced 18.6%, reflecting stronger FP Group demand from specialty retailers and department stores and extending the brands’ reach.

FP Group led performance, delivering 15.2% revenue growth to $478.1 million and a 10% increase in retail comparable sales. Free People’s sales reached $346.4 million, while FP Movement’s revenues totaled $131.7 million, supported by technical innovation and fresh activewear styles. FP Movement opened four stores, bringing its standalone footprint to 97. Strong regular-price sales and disciplined inventory helped FP Group generate record second-quarter operating profit.

Urban Outfitters’ comparable sales climbed 8.4%, supported by denim, pants, lounge and shoes. Anthropologie posted 3% comparable sales growth despite elevated markdowns, with regular-price comparable sales turning positive in July as fall merchandise arrived. Nuuly’s revenues increased 28.6% to $178.6 million, while average active subscribers rose 30.4% to approximately 484,000, highlighting another meaningful source of customer demand.

Management expects high-single-digit company sales growth for fiscal 2027. Third-quarter retail comparable sales could rise high single digits at FP Group, mid-single digits at Urban Outfitters and low to mid-single digits at Anthropologie. Nuuly could deliver high-twenties revenue growth, with annual revenues exceeding $700 million, giving the portfolio multiple drivers for continued expansion.
