Copart Stock: Is Wall Street Bullish or Bearish?

Based in Dallas, Texas, Copart, Inc. (CPRT), with a market capitalization of approximately $28.8 billion, is a global online vehicle auction and automotive remarketing company. It operates a digital marketplace connecting vehicle sellers, including insurers and rental firms, with buyers of used, wholesale, and salvage-title vehicles worldwide.

Shares of this global leader in online car auctions have trailed the broader market by a wide margin over the past year. CPRT has plunged 23.9% over this period, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has rallied 13.5%. The underperformance has continued in 2026, with the stock down 16.7% YTD, compared with the index's 12.3% gain over the same period.

Narrowing the comparison, CPRT has also lagged behind the State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLI), which has posted 11.1% gains over the past year and is up 9.2% YTD.

Despite lagging behind its peers amid slowing vehicle volumes, mounting profitability pressures, and a significant valuation reset, Copart continues to demonstrate solid underlying fundamentals. Over the past five years, the company has achieved annual revenue growth of 11.6%, supported by strong free cash flow generation, improving cash conversion, and high returns on capital. These strengths provide financial flexibility to fund investments and return capital to shareholders through share repurchases and dividends.

Adding to its long-term growth opportunities, Copart announced the completion of its acquisition of ACV Auctions on Oct. 16, 2026, for $10.50 per share in cash. The acquisition expands Copart’s automotive remarketing platform beyond salvage disposition to include dealer trade-ins and wholesale vehicle auctions. ACV will continue operating as an independent subsidiary under its existing leadership team. The deal broadens Copart’s market reach and service capabilities, potentially creating opportunities for greater operational efficiencies and sustained growth.

For the current fiscal year, ending in July 2027, analysts expect CPRT’s diluted EPS to increase 5.2% to $1.63. However, CPRT surpassed the consensus estimate in only two of the last four quarters, while missing it in the other two.

Among the 12 analysts covering CPRT stock, the consensus is a "Moderate Buy." That rating is based on seven "Strong Buy" ratings, four "Hold" ratings, and one "Strong Sell" rating.

CPRT’s analyst configuration is more bullish than it was three months ago, when the stock had six “Strong Buy” recommendations.

On Oct. 20, 2026, Robert W. Baird analyst Craig Kennison maintained a “Buy” rating on Copart and reiterated his $38 price target.

The mean analyst price target of $41.50 implies a 27.2% premium to CPRT’s current share price, while the Street-high target of $65 suggests a 99.3% premium.
