Shares of the Springdale, Arkansas-based company have declined 24.8% from its 52-week high of $69.48. Over the past three months, its shares have fallen 7%, underperforming the broader Nasdaq Composite’s ($NASX) 1.5% gain during the same period.
TSN stock has decreased 10.9% on a YTD basis, lagging behind NASX's 13.7% increase. Moreover, shares of the company have dipped 3.4% over the past 52 weeks, compared to NASX’s 18.7% return over the same time frame.
The stock has been trading below its 50-day and 200-day moving averages since late August.
Tyson Foods’ shares tumbled 7.3% on Sept. 3 after the company cut its fiscal 2026 adjusted operating income forecast for the second time in a month to $1.85 billion - $2.05 billion. The downgrade was driven mainly by severe U.S. cattle shortages, volatile cattle prices and margin compression in the beef business, including the expected impact of lower cattle prices on the value of Tyson’s live-cattle inventories and cautious foodservice demand added pressure. The company also reduced its fiscal 2026 revenue growth outlook to 1.5% - 2%.
In comparison, rival Bunge Global SA (BG) has outpaced TSN stock. BG stock has surged 33.9% on a YTD basis and 48.4% over the past 52 weeks.
Despite the stock’s weak performance, analysts remain moderately optimistic about its prospects. TSN stock has a consensus rating of “Moderate Buy” from 11 analysts in coverage, and the mean price target of $62.40 represents a premium of 19.4% to current levels.
