CF Industries Holdings, Inc. (CF), based in Northbrook, Illinois, is the world’s largest ammonia producer, with a market capitalization of approximately $19.3 billion. It manufactures and distributes ammonia and nitrogen products used primarily as fertilizer, while expanding into low-carbon ammonia for power generation and marine shipping through its global production and distribution network.
Companies valued between $10 billion and $200 billion are generally classified as “large-cap stocks,” and CF Industries comfortably fits this category. Its market capitalization reflects its substantial size, influence, and established position within the agricultural inputs industry. CF Industries’ edge comes from its low-cost position in nitrogen production. Access to low-cost U.S. natural gas as a feedstock helps support competitive production economics and profitability, while investments in carbon-free blue and green ammonia strengthen its focus on lower-carbon solutions and future energy applications.

Despite its notable strengths, CF is currently 13.2% below its 52-week high of $141.96, reached on March 30, 2026. Over the past three months, CF shares have risen 19.8%, compared with a 9.2% gain in the VanEck Agribusiness ETF (MOO) over the same period.
Shares of CF have climbed 59.4% YTD and 44.9% over the past 52 weeks, considerably outpacing MOO, which has gained 15.4% YTD and 14% over the same period.
CF has remained above its 200-day moving average since mid-January and moved above its 50-day moving average in early July, pointing to sustained upward momentum across both longer and shorter-term periods.
CF’s strong performance may have been supported by improved financial results and favorable nitrogen market conditions during the first half of 2026. On August 5, the company reported its second-quarter results, with first-half net earnings rising 92.3% year over year to $1.34 billion. Adjusted EBITDA increased 54.8% to $2.18 billion, while net sales climbed 18.4% to $4.21 billion, supported by higher average selling prices amid a tight global nitrogen supply-demand balance.
CF also maintained strong operating performance during the first half, producing approximately 4.9 million tons of ammonia and operating at 98% of available ammonia capacity. Looking ahead, the company expects nitrogen supply to remain constrained while demand remains constructive through the end of 2026 and into 2027, which could provide continued support for its business outlook.
Within the competitive agricultural inputs industry, Corteva, Inc. (CTVA) has delivered more modest gains than CF, rising 18% YTD and 11.6% over the past 52 weeks.
Wall Street analysts maintain a neutral view of CF’s prospects. The stock carries a consensus “Hold” rating from the 19 analysts covering it, while its current price of $123.27 stands above the mean price target of $119.74.
