Procter & Gamble Earnings Preview: What to Expect

With a market cap of $336.6 billion, The Procter & Gamble Company (PG) is a household-name powerhouse behind brands spanning beauty, grooming, health care, fabric and home care, and baby and family products. The Cincinnati, Ohio-based company’s portfolio reaches consumers worldwide through a broad network of retail and professional channels.

PG is set to announce its fiscal Q1 2027 results before the market opens on Thursday, Oct. 22. Ahead of this event, analysts expect PG to report an adjusted EPS of $1.89, down 5% from $1.99 in the year-ago quarter. Still, the consumer giant has a strong earnings track record, having beaten analysts’ bottom-line estimates in each of the past four quarters.

Shares of Procter & Gamble have declined 4.2% over the past 52 weeks, lagging behind both the S&P 500 Index's ($SPX) 15.8% return and the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLP) 3.9% gain over the same period.

Procter & Gamble has lagged the broader market over the past year as sluggish organic sales growth and muted consumer demand have weighed on its growth prospects. Organic revenue has disappointed in recent quarters, while Wall Street expects only 1.9% growth over the next 12 months. At the same time, P&G’s operating margin has failed to expand, suggesting limited room for further cost efficiencies.

Nevertheless, analysts' consensus view on PG stock is cautiously optimistic, with an overall "Moderate Buy" rating. Among 26 analysts covering the stock, nine recommend "Strong Buy," four suggest "Moderate Buy," and 13 advise "Hold." The average analyst price target is $160.54, indicating a potential upside of 10% from the current levels.
