Big Tech Earnings, Fed Decision and Other Key Things to Watch this Week

Markets face a pivotal week as the Federal Reserve decides on interest rates Wednesday at 2:00pm. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh follows with a press conference at 2:30pm. Heavy earnings from Alphabet (GOOGL), Microsoft (MSFT) and Amazon (AMZN) will test whether AI spending is paying off. Thursday’s third-quarter GDP and Core PCE data arrive the same morning. Crude oil and rising bond yields remain the key risks to the outlook. Investors will be watching closely for any shift in tone from policymakers.

Here are 5 things to watch this week in the Market.

Fed Decision and Warsh’s Press Conference

The Fed announces its rate decision Wednesday at 2:00pm. Warsh speaks at 2:30pm. Markets want clarity on the policy path after recent moves in Treasury yields. Rising bond yields have already raised expectations of a firmer stance from policymakers. Any hawkish tone could pressure growth stocks that depend on lower borrowing costs. A patient message could ease yield pressure and give equities some room. The press conference will be closely parsed for signals on inflation, labor conditions, and the likely path of rates into year-end.

Q3 GDP and Core PCE: Inflation Meets Growth

Thursday’s GDP reading at 8:30am is a preliminary estimate for the third quarter. Core PCE, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, arrives at the same time. Together, the two releases will show whether the economy is slowing while prices stay firm. Strong growth paired with sticky inflation would strengthen the hawkish case. Weak growth would revive stagflation concerns and raise questions about the Fed’s next move. Traders will react quickly, since the data lands just hours after the rate decision.

Big Tech Earnings and AI Spending Returns

Alphabet (GOOGL) and Microsoft (MSFT) report Wednesday. Amazon (AMZN) and Intel (INTC) follow Thursday. The central question is whether AI capital spending is producing revenue. Cloud growth and capital expenditure guidance will matter most. Investors have grown more skeptical about AI returns after months of heavy spending. Strong guidance could steady semiconductor and software names. Weak guidance would likely deepen the sector’s recent selloff.

Oil Volatility and Energy Earnings

Wednesday’s crude oil inventories at 10:30am will show supply and demand trends. Oil prices remain sensitive to Middle East developments and any new headlines. Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX) report Friday. Their results will show whether higher crude is flowing through to profit. Higher energy prices would add to inflation pressure. That would complicate the Fed’s path and keep yields elevated. Shell (SHEL) and BP (BP) also report this week, adding a global view of energy demand.

Consumer and Industrial Read-Through

Boeing (BA) and Coca-Cola (KO) report Tuesday. Caterpillar (CAT) reports Thursday. Boeing will show aerospace demand and production progress. Coca-Cola will show whether consumers still accept higher prices. Caterpillar reflects global construction and mining activity. Durable goods orders Tuesday at 8:30am add a read on business investment plans. Friday’s Chicago PMI closes the week with a regional manufacturing view that could shift sentiment heading into November.
