Can GE Aerospace Continue Its Strong Capital Returns to Shareholders?

GE Aerospace GE is a well-known developer and manufacturer of jet engines, components and integrated systems for commercial, military and business aircraft. It offers a broad range of products and services such as LEAP, GE9X & GEnx engines, airframes, engine gear, and transmission components and services, among others.

The company continues to demonstrate its focus on returning capital to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases. During the first half of 2026, it repurchased $4.2 billion worth of shares and distributed $873 million in dividends, representing a 26.9% increase from the prior-year period. In 2025, the company also returned capital through $1.45 billion in dividend payments and $7.55 billion in share repurchases. After the first quarter of 2026, repurchases have been carried out under the new $20 billion authorization that was approved in December 2025.

In February 2026, GE Aerospace increased its quarterly dividend by 30.6% to 36 cents per share. The company now forecasts free cash flow of $8.9-$9.2 billion for 2026, above its earlier projection of $8.0-$8.4 billion. GE Aerospace had also previously outlined plans to raise total shareholder returns by 20% to roughly $24 billion over the 2024-2026 period through a combination of dividend payments and share repurchases.

GE’s strong liquidity position also supports its shareholder-friendly policies.  Exiting the second quarter of 2026, its cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash were $9.3 billion, much higher than the short-term borrowings of $2 billion. This implies that the company has sufficient cash to meet its short-term debt obligations.

GE’s Peers on Capital Returns

RTX Corporation RTX returns substantial capital to shareholders through a combination of dividends. In the first six months of 2026, RTX paid dividends of $1.9 billion. Also, in April 2026, RTX increased its quarterly dividend by 7.4% to 73 cents per share, bringing the annual dividend to $2.92 per share.

Textron Inc. TXT paid dividends of $4 million in the second quarter of 2026, and repurchased shares worth $209 million. Textron retained adequate short-term liquidity while continuing to return capital to shareholders. Manufacturing cash and equivalents totaled $1.44 billion as of July 4, 2026, compared with current debt of $355 million.
