Do Wall Street Analysts Like Synchrony Financial Stock?

Stamford, Connecticut-based Synchrony Financial (SYF) operates as a consumer financial services company in the United States. Valued at a market cap of $25.6 billion, the company provides credit products, such as credit cards, commercial credit products, and consumer installment loans. 

SYF stock has lagged behind the broader market over the past year, surging 13.3% compared to the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX21.5% surge. Moreover, in 2026, the stock has fallen by nearly 5.7%, underperforming the SPX’s 12.6% rise.

Zooming in further, the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) has risen 12.4% over the past year, lagging behind the stock. In 2026, XLF has grown 5.5% and has outpaced the stock.

On July 21, SYF stock declined 1.6% following the release of its Q2 2026 earnings. The company’s revenue declined 34.7% from the prior year’s quarter to $2.4 billion and missed the Street’s forecasts. However, its adjusted EPS came in at $2.59 and successfully met Wall Street’s estimates. Additionally, its net interest margin amounted to 15.1%, also failing to touch the Street’s estimates. 

For the current year, which ends in December, analysts expect SYF’s EPS to decline marginally to $9.35 on a diluted basis. The company met or surpassed the consensus estimate in each of the last four quarters.  

Among 23 Wall Street analysts covering SYF stock, the consensus is a “Moderate Buy.” That’s based on 13 “Strong Buy” ratings, one “Moderate Buy,” and nine “Holds.”

The configuration has remained unchanged over the past months.

On July 8, UBS analyst Erika Najarian assigned a “Hold” rating to Synchrony Financial and set a price target of $84.          

SYF’s mean price target of $88.91 offers a 13.3% upside compared to the current market price. Its Street-high target of $104 implies a robust 32.6% upside from current levels.
