Are Wall Street Analysts Predicting Steel Dynamics Stock Will Climb or Sink?

Fort Wayne, Indiana-based Steel Dynamics, Inc. (STLD) operates as a steel producer and metal recycler in the United States. The company has a market cap of $35.8 billion and operates through Steel Operations, Metals Recycling Operations, Steel Fabrication Operations, and Aluminum Operations segments.

STLD stock has lagged behind the broader market over the past year, growing 16.2% compared to the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX19.3% surge. Moreover, in 2026, the stock has risen by nearly 5.9%, underperforming the SPX’s 12.4% rise.

Focusing on its industry benchmark, the State Street Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLB) has risen 16.3% over the past year, outperforming the stock. In 2026, XLB has grown 15.4% and has also outpaced the stock.

On July 20, STLD stock declined 2.1% following the release of its mixed Q2 2026 earnings. The company’s revenue for the quarter came in at $6.1 billion and missed the Street’s estimates. However, its adjusted EPS for the period came in at $3.69, coming in above Wall Street’s forecasts. 

For the current year, which ends in January 2027, analysts expect STLD’s EPS to rise 114.8% to $17.16 on a diluted basis. The company surpassed the consensus estimate in three of the last four quarters, while missing on one occasion.

Among the 13 analysts covering STLD stock, the consensus is a “Moderate Buy.” That’s based on nine “Strong Buy” ratings and four “Holds.”

The configuration has grown more bullish over the past months, with the stock now having nine “Strong Buy” ratings, up from seven recorded three months ago.

On July 30, Goldman Sachs analyst Nick Cash initiated coverage of STLD with a “Buy” rating and set a price target of $300. 

STLD’s mean price target of $276.85 offers a 10.8% upside compared to the current market price. Its Street-high target of $310 implies a robust 24% upside from current levels.
