Atlanta, Georgia-based Equifax Inc. (EFX) operates as a data, analytics, and technology company. Valued at a market cap of $22.6 billion, the company operates through three segments: Workforce Solutions, U.S. Information Solutions (USIS), and International, and offers services that enable customers to verify income, employment, educational history, criminal justice data, healthcare professional licensure, and more.

EFX stock has exhibited signs of declining profitability over the past couple of years, leading to a loss of investor and analyst confidence. The stock’s adjusted operating margin has declined by 3.6% over the last five years due to faster-rising costs compared to its revenue growth. Additionally, its EPS growth over the last five years has also been only 1.1% annually, falling short of its industry peers. All these signs point towards operational inefficiency, falling demand, and lesser profitability as a result.

For the current year, which ends in December, analysts expect EFX’s EPS to increase 12.2% to $8.58 on a diluted basis. The company surpassed the consensus estimate in each of the last four quarters.

Among the 25 analysts covering EFX stock, the consensus is a “Moderate Buy.” That’s based on 13 “Strong Buy” ratings, three “Moderate Buys,”  and nine “Holds.”

The configuration has remained more or less the same over the past months.

On July 24, J.P. Morgan analyst Andrew Steinerman maintained a “Buy” rating on Equifax and set a price target of $210.

EFX’s mean price target of $208.77 offers a 7.3% upside compared to the current market price. Its Street-high target of $245 implies a 25.9% upside from current levels.
