How Is Lumentum's Stock Performance Compared to Other Technology Stocks?

With a market cap of $83.5 billion, Lumentum Holdings Inc. (LITE) is a global leader in optical and photonic technologies supporting AI, cloud computing, and next-generation communications. The company provides high-performance lasers, modules, and optical subsystems for data center connectivity, telecom networks, industrial manufacturing, and sensing applications. 

Companies valued at $10 billion or more are generally classified as “large-cap” stocks, and Lumentum fits this criterion perfectly. Lumentum operates research, manufacturing, and sales facilities worldwide.

Shares of the San Jose, California-based company have dipped 12.2% from its 52-week high of $1,085.68. Over the past three months, shares of the company have risen 9.5%, outpacing the State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF's (XLK) marginal decline during the same period.

The stock has surged 152.6% on a YTD basis, outperforming XLK’s 31.7% increase. In the longer term, shares of Lumentum have jumped 442.8% over the past 52 weeks, compared to XLK’s 37.3% gain over the same time frame.

Despite a few fluctuations, the stock has been trading below its 50-day moving average since last year.

Lumentum shares climbed 13.6% following its Q4 2026 results on Aug. 11 as revenue surged 109% year-over-year to $1.03 billion and adjusted EPS of $3.23, beating the consensus. Gross margin came in at 47.4%, well above the estimate. The company also issued strong Q1 2027 guidance, forecasting revenue of $1.23 billion - $1.28 billion and adjusted EPS of $4.05 - $4.35, driven by accelerating AI demand for high-power CPO lasers and optical connectivity products.

In comparison, rival Cisco Systems, Inc. (CSCO) has underperformed LITE stock. Cisco Systems' shares have returned 43.3% on a YTD basis and 61.9% over the past 52 weeks.

Due to LITE stock’s outperformance, analysts are bullish about its prospects. It has a consensus rating of “Strong Buy” from the 24 analysts covering the stock, and the mean price target of $1,138.12 is a premium of 22.3% to current levels.
