Consolidated Edison Earnings Preview: What to Expect

New York-based Consolidated Edison, Inc. (ED) engages in the regulated electric, gas, and steam delivery businesses in the United States. The company has a market cap of $42.8 billion and serves approximately 3.7 million customers in New York City and Westchester County, and also provides gas and steam to millions. ED is expected to release its Q3 2026 earnings on Thursday, November 5, 2026, after the market closes.

Ahead of the event, analysts expect the company’s EPS to be $2.07 on a diluted basis, up 9% from $1.90 in the year-ago quarter. The company has exceeded Wall Street’s EPS estimates in three of its last four quarters, while missing on one occasion.

For fiscal 2026, analysts project the company’s EPS to be $6.10, up 7% from $5.70 in fiscal 2025. Moreover, its EPS is expected to grow by roughly 6.4% year over year (YoY) to $6.49 in fiscal 2027.

ED stock has grown around 14.9% over the past 52 weeks, outpacing the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 13.1% rise and the State Street Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLU) 5.8% fall during the same time frame.

On Aug. 6, ED stock rose marginally following the release of its Q2 2026 earnings. The company’s revenue for the quarter amounted to $4.1 billion, surpassing the Street’s estimates. Moreover, its adjusted EPS came in at $0.83, also topping Wall Street’s forecasts. ED expects full-year earnings in the range of $6 to $6.20 per share. Additionally, it is well positioned to take advantage of the energy demand as more data centers start to show up, with the company already expecting to have 28 new substations in service by 2035, along with tens of billions of dollars in other capital investments to meet the growing demand for energy.

Analysts are skeptical about ED, with the stock having a “Hold” rating overall. Among the 18 analysts covering the stock, three are recommending a “Strong Buy,” nine suggest a “Hold,” one recommends a “Moderate Sell,” and five suggest a “Strong Sell” for the stock. ED’s average analyst price target of $108.31 is below the current price level. However, its Street-high price target of $130 indicates an upside of 12.3%.
