XPeng Inc. (NYSE: XPEV ) has commissioned production lines for its IRON humanoid robot, moving the Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA ) rival’s robotics program from research prototypes into line manufacturing as it targets mass production by the end of 2026.
IRON Moves From Prototype To Production
The Chinese EV maker said in a Monday press release that an IRON unit completed production and walked off the line autonomously. XPeng called the facility the ‘world’s first automated production line’ for advanced humanoid robots, with more than 80% of core processes automated and automotive-grade quality systems adapted from vehicle operations.
"The robot production lines were created from scratch with no precedent to follow," Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said, adding that XPeng will pursue faster production cycles and greater scale.
The milestone advances XPeng’s plan to mass-produce IRON by year-end . Initial deployments are planned for its stores and campuses before an official launch and deliveries in China and overseas markets in 2027. During its second-quarter update in August, XPeng said monthly production capacity could ramp to several thousand units in 2027 depending on demand.

IRON is central to XPeng’s Physical AI push. The company unveiled the robot at its November 2025 AI Day . XPeng says the platform has 76 degrees of freedom across its body and 21 in each hand, using a flexible lattice structure designed to balance human-like movement with safety.
TrendingThe robot runs on three in-house Turing AI chips delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of effective computing power. XPeng says its Physical AI foundation model can run directly on the robot, allowing IRON to perform complex tasks without remote operation while reducing inference latency and improving data security.
Robotics Funding Backs Global Commercialization Push
The production milestone follows XPeng’s robotics business signing agreements in August to raise more than $900 million at a post-money valuation above $6.3 billion. IDG Capital led the round, with Gaorong Ventures participating and Tencent Holding Ltd. (OTC: TCEHY ) and Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE: BABA ) (NYSE: BABAF ) joining as strategic investors.
XPeng said the funding will support hardware and software development, Physical AI model training, data generation, mass-production facilities and global commercialization. The company will retain control of the robotics business and continue consolidating its financial results.
Benzinga’s Edge Stock Rankings indicate that XPEV stock has a less favorable outlook in the Short, Medium and Long term.
