The EA trades best on higher timeframes (above 15M), and can be looked upon as a swing trading system. Therefore low spread and commissions environment is not necessary.

The optimization of the strategy was conducted on 2 years of data, and forward tested on 5, using ICMarkets regular account with 100% real tick data. (Timezone GMT+2)
Change your time filter settings accordingly if you're in a different time zone - for example if you're in the UK GMT+0, instead of 7:30 to 19:00, you should switch to 5:30 and 17:00!!!

Performance tests in the 3 years from 2020 to 2023, on USDJPY, with 1% risk per trade generate 170% net profit, same 3 years with 2% risk per trade generate 460% net profit. The 4 years from 2020 till now return up to 740% net gain with 2% risk per trade, and so on. This system is very hands off, low stress addition to your algorithmic toolbox, that trades 3-5 times per week (depending on the settings).

The backtest screenshots included and the default settings have been generated with the simplest hard stop loss below the nearest swing low (or above the nearest swing high for short trades). So massaging the results with the \"Break Even\" and \"Trailing Stop\" functionalities has not been done. I leave that pleasure to the user.

The Smart Trend EA has a lot of options to play around with, but crucial for it's performance are the 5 main filters:
- One candlestick trend pattern filter;
- One very precise oscilator filter (RSI);
- Two different configurable MA trend filters;
- One time filter.

The strategy can be used with the default settings. Every position is protected by a hard stop-loss.

A minimum of 200$ account is required, but my recommendation is to use an account size of at least $500. Other general advice: try all the JPY pairs, and other trendy pairs of your liking. You can build a portfolio of different pairs and settings with the 10 activations you have. The system is not extensively tested on timeframes lower than 15M, so I advice caution. And further testing.

Keep in mind that every legit strategy has losing periods. It is recommended to use every EA at least a few months to decide whether it suits you.

None of these ways suited me. I was looking for an expression of the dynamics of the market, its liquidity, I just wanted to clearly see where the money was flowing. I thought I would calculate the volume weighted price percentiles for a certain period.
To make the calculation more accurate, I calculate from a lower timeframe. That is, to be more precise, two degrees lower. So, with the H1 timeframe set, I load candles from M15. I believe this detail balances sufficient accuracy on the one hand and speed on the other. Speed, i.e. loading historical data in this detail, tends to be a problem. Be patient, jump to surrounding timeframes. Loading will speed up. It will keep the data loaded once with MT5 and it will be better next time.
The similarity with the Volume profile is that where the histogram has higher values, the quantiles - liquidity streams - are closer together. I highlight it in color for a quick overview.
There is a lot of information about Volume Profile, Smart Money and the like. You will use everything.

When quantifying Market Structure, it is common to use fractal highs and lows to identify \"significant\" swing pivots. When identifying a MSS: If the current trend is bearish and we're looking for a bullish reversal, we would need price to close above the most recent protected high. When this happens, we still look back to find the lowest low that was created in that range, and make that our new protected low. Likewise when looking for a bearish reversal, price would need to close below the most recent protected low, which would then give us a new protected high as a result (the highest point in that range). The Trend Candles option allows users to easily visualize the current state of Market Structure with bullish and bearish colors. Users may also show BOS and MSS labels if desired. (Image 5)

In this indicator, I started with a simple moving average crossover algorithm. Recommended Time Frames:

Trades are therefore made 15 or 30 minutes before the daily closing time to prevent additional costs using a 30 or 15 minute timeframe on your charts.

Data and Back Tests:

Customs symbols are created for higher data quality on the MetaQuotes platform. The data is from Dukascopy, which are from Jan 2008 up to March 2024. In-sample data are from Jan 2008 up to Dec 2018 and are used to optimize each strategy.

The remaining data from Jan 2019 to March 2024 leaves five years and three months (5.25 years) for the out of sample data to see how each strategy performs and how the EA performs as a portfolio.

The out of sample data results shown below, should only be used as an indication of the profitability potential of the EA.

They do not guarantee that similar results will be obtained in future when using this EA. See screenshots for more results on the out of sample performance.
