What Is ADX

J. Welles Wilder Jr., the developer of well-known indicators such as RSI, ATR, and Parabolic SAR, believed that the Directional Movement System, which is partially implemented in ADX indicator, was his most satisfying achievement. In his 1978 book, New Concepts in Technical Trading Systems, He said:

I have probably spent more time studying directional movement than any other concept. Certainly one of my most satisfying achievements was the day I was actually able to reduce this concept to an absolute mathematical equation.

The core idea of this indicator is to record directional movements whenever there is a higher high or lower low. The indicator then calculates the smoothed moving average of these directional movements to determine the Directional Indexes (DIs), which are represented as DI+ and DI- lines within the ADX indicator (or as cloud in this version). The Average Directional Index (ADX) line is derived by dividing the difference between the DIs by their sum total. (You can see the calculations in the attached pictures.)

To Trade Using the ADX

When the cloud's color changes from red to green (indicating a cross of the DIs), enter a long position and set your stop loss at the low price of the day (identified as the Extreme Point by Wilder).
Avoid opening any positions when the ADX line (blue line) is below the cloud (both DI lines) or when the ADXR line (orange dotted line) is below 20. Similar rules apply for opening short positions when the cloud's color changes from green to red.
Reverse your position when the cloud's color changes again, but do not reverse (and hold the current position) if the price doesn't close below the Extreme Point.
Take profit when the ADX line is above the cloud (both DI lines) and begins a downward movement. You can re-enter in the same direction if the ADX line starts another upward movement or with the next change in cloud color.
Exit the current position when the ADX line falls below the cloud (both DI lines), as the trend is considered exhausted at this point.

The ADX indicator provides a comprehensive trading system, offering entry and exit points, stop-loss and take-profit levels, and insights into ranging and trending market conditions..

¿Cómo funciona este indicador?

The secondary (thinner) Pivot Line represents the presumed Pivot level of the market. Breaks in this line can be used for short-term/scalping trades following the current market trend indicated by the Trend Line.

Although the Omega Trend Indicator’s signals are clear and easy to interpret (see the second image below), there are a few steps you should follow to filter out false trading signals. First, you need to be able to recognize a choppy market and try to ignore it. A choppy market is a market that is highly volatile but results in no overall price movement, in either direction. These price spikes and sharp rebounds from the range borders can generate a series of poor signals. In the third image below, you can see an example of a choppy market. A choppy market presents the worst possible conditions for any breakout or impulse trading strategy. If you use the Omega Trend Indicator under these conditions, do not be surprised if you have poor results.

Omega Trend Indicator signals are at their most reliable, when following the market in trend or swing mode. Avoid trading in periods of low liquidity. In these periods, the market is generally in a narrow range. Periods of low liquidity normally occur after the close of the NY trading session and often throughout the entire Asian session. The best signals from the indicator could be expected during the London and the NY trading sessions (8-21 GMT).

I recommend Omega Trend Indicator for the EURUSD, EURJPY, USDCHF, GBPJPY and GBPUSD pairs. As well all market instruments with a trending behavior are appropriate. You can use it on all timeframes, for scalping, day trading or long-term investing.

I strongly recommend that you adapt visually the indicator lines to the chart. The default settings are not suitable for all chart periods and all market instruments. The most important settings you should try to adapt are: Volatility_Period, TrendLine_Level, PivotLine_Level and Bar_Acceleration.

Volatility_Period - the indicator period of the volatility calculation.

The indicator works best when two or more timeframes are in a squeeze. For example, both 15min and 5min periods are in a squeeze period. Enter a trade in the direction of the movement when 5min period is released from squeeze.

What Is SWIFT Sniper M3 v13?

SWIFT Sniper M3 v13 is a technical signal indicator for MetaTrader 5 that combines a momentum-based crossover engine with a swing structure filter to identify potential trade setups on any instrument and timeframe. When a signal condition is met, the indicator automatically calculates a dynamic structural stop loss based on recent swing points, derives up to four take-profit levels at configurable risk-to-reward ratios, and draws all levels directly on the chart with clearly labeled badge annotations.

A built-in information panel displays real-time session statistics including signal count, current active signal, last exit reason, and a full hit counter breakdown for SL, TP1, TP2, TP3, and TP4 — all live on the chart without any external tools or spreadsheets.

The panel uses the Material 3 design language and adapts automatically to your chart's color theme (dark or light). It is fully draggable to any position on the screen.

Key Features

Swing-confirmed signals: Entries require simultaneous momentum crossover, confirmed swing high/low structure, optional candle close direction filter, and trend alignment with the slow MA.
Dynamic structural SL: Stop loss is placed beyond the nearest structural swing point within a configurable lookback window, not at a fixed pip distance.
Four configurable TP levels: TP1, TP2, TP3, TP4 are calculated as risk-reward multiples of the structural SL distance (default is 1R, 2R, 3R, 4R, but fully adjustable).
Live badge labels: Each price level shows exact price, point distance, estimated USD value at your configured lot size, and RR ratio, updated every tick for the active signal.
Session hit counters: Cascading counter logic means a TP4 hit increments all four TP counters; a TP3 hit increments TP1, TP2, and TP3; and so on.
Sequential signal gate: A new signal only generates after the previous one is fully terminated, keeping the chart clean and statistics honest.
Signals confirmed on closed bars: Signal arrows are placed on the second-to-last closed bar and anchored by bar timestamp to prevent position shifting.
Full visual toggle control: TP Zone, SL Zone, TP Lines, SL Line, Entry Line, and Break-Even Line can each be turned on or off independently.
MT5 native alerts: Alert popup fires once per new signal with direction, entry, SL, and TP1 values.
Draggable Material 3 panel: Dark/light auto-theme, clean card layout, drag from the header area to reposition.

How the Signal Logic Works

Momentum crossover: A fast and slow moving average are calculated using your chosen applied price. Their difference is smoothed into a signal line. A buy condition requires the difference to cross above the signal line; a sell condition requires it to cross below.
Structural swing confirmation: The crossover is only valid if a genuine swing low (for buys) or swing high (for sells) exists within the recent lookback window, confirmed by the required number of surrounding bars.
Candle close filter (optional): Buy signals can be restricted to bull-close candles; sell signals to bear-close candles. Enabled by default, disableable via input.
Trend filter: Buy signals only fire when the current close is above the slow MA; sell signals only when below it.

All four conditions must be simultaneously true on the confirmed closed bar for a signal to be generated.

Dynamic Structural Stop Loss & Take-Profit Levels

For buy signals, the indicator scans back a configurable number of bars to find the lowest low, then places the stop just below it with a small configurable buffer in points. For sell signals, it finds the highest high in the same window and places the stop just above it. This ensures your stop is anchored to an actual structural level the market has formed.

Once the stop distance is known, TP1 through TP4 are calculated as configurable multiples of that distance in the signal direction. All four levels are drawn on the chart with distinct colors from the M3 palette and labelled with live badges showing price, points, USD value, and RR ratio.

A break-even line is also drawn at 0.5x the stop distance from the entry—a common reference level traders use to decide when to trail their stop. This line is labelled and toggleable.

Session Hit Counter — Track Your Signal Outcomes Live

The panel's lower section displays five counters updated after every signal termination:

Features of trading the 1-2-3 pattern

The 123 pattern can indicate either a reversal or a trend.
The 123 pattern is effective on any instruments and timeframes from M5 to MN.
The greater the number of bars forming the pattern (from point 1 to point 3), the greater the price movement is predicted after breaking the pattern.
If point 1 has a pin-bar (Hammer or Shooting Star in candlestick analysis), it strengthens the pattern.
For Intraday trading, it is recommended to look for the pattern only on the European and American sessions.
According to the trading system, a pattern is considered to be triggered when a bar breaks the line at the level of point 2. That is, the bar must close on the other side of the line, and not simply touch or pierce it. However, the indicator can also consider a simple touch of the line from point 2 as pattern triggering (parameter \"Method for pattern triggering\").

In a downward trend, the short trailing stop line (magenta over sell) appears and declines until the close crosses over the line.

The Chandelier Exit is one of 14 indicator-based trailing stops comprising our Universal Trailing Stop EA MT5. You don't need to download this indicator to make it work in the UTS EA, as the indicator is already built into it, but if you want to see how your trailing stop auto-adjusts to the indicator lines on the chart of UTS-EA when you set Apply indicator template=true, you need to download this indicator.

While we use the Chandelier Exit as a trailing stop, it can be used in a volatility breakout strategy. The trader or EA can buy whenever the close crosses above the upper trail line and sell whenever the close crosses below the lower trail line.

This Chandelier Exit trail is superior to using a fixed percentage because its change is based on the volatility characteristics of the underlying instrument and time frame.

Parameters:

Range (7) - Range of the highest high (lowest low)
Shift (1) - Indicator shift;
ATRPeriod (14) – Indicator Period;
ATRMultipl (3) – This is the factor for multiplying the ATR. You may use fractions – this does not need to be an integer;
Show Channel (true/false) — if false (default), it shows the orange line under buy in upward trend, magenta line over sell in downward trend; if true, it shows a channel on both sides of the price.

Free version

This version works on four symbols: EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY and XAUUSD and on strategy tester or back test it works on every instrument. The indicator will not load on other instruments on live chart. Input parameters

SMA Length: Period of the moving average filter (default 200)
Use TrueRange: Include gap range in internal channel calculation (recommended on)
Show SMA Line: Display the 200 SMA line on the chart
Show Arrows: Enable or disable signal arrows
Use SMA Filter: Require price to be on the correct side of the 200 SMA before a signal is allowed
Max Signals Per Side: Maximum signals allowed in one direction before requiring the opposite (default 1)

Timeframes

The indicator performs best on the 5 and 15-minute timeframe. Higher timeframes will produce fewer signals. Lower timeframes may produce more noise.

Notes

The indicator shows the strongest results on XAUUSD and cryptocurrency pairs due to their momentum-driven price behaviour. On forex pairs it works well as a trend confirmation tool alongside other analysis. It is recommended to keep the SMA filter enabled at all times to avoid trading against the prevailing trend. The Max Signals Per Side setting is best left at 1 for a clean alternating signal structure.
