How to Use:

Settings:

1. Magic Number : Set the magic number for the EA. Its a unique number to identify the trades for an instrument.

2. Position Sizing Method : There are 3 Modes for position sizing

Fixed Lots : EA will always trade with a fixed number of lots.

Fixed Money : You can set a fixed amount of money to risk per trade. Lot size will be chosen in such a way based on SL that you will not loose more than this amount if SL is hit.

Percent of Account : You can set the Percent of account balance you want to risk per trade.

3. TP Factor || SL Factor : Think of this as a range height multiplier. By default, for BUY trade the TP is set at range high + range height and SL is set as range low. But for example if you want to increase the TP and decrease SL, you can change TP Factor to 2(2xRange Height) and SL Factor to 0.5(0.5xRange Height).

4. Range Settings : Three parameters to set(Timings used are in 24hr clock format so 1pm Broker Time will be 13:00hr)

Range Start time in minutes : This input helps you mark the start of the range. The time needs to be converted to minutes, for ex. if you want to start at 3:20 then the input value will be 200(3*60+20). If you want to start at 14:45(i.e 2:45pm) then the input value will be 885(14*60+45).

Range End time in minutes : This input helps you mark the end of the range. Here you you can just mention for how long you want the range to end, for example if the range start time is 3:20 and the range should end at 5:20, this is a 2hr range so the final value of input will be 120(2*60). Another example can be, if the range starts as 14:45 and ends at 15:30, this is a 45min range so the final input will 45.

Range Close time in minutes : This input helps in marking the day end where if any position is still open, it will get closed. This feature is there to make sure that no positions are carried forward to the next day and we can trade the new range.

Range color : Select the color with which you want the range to be marked with.

5. Range Height Settings : Think of these inputs as range filter, if you do not want to trade either when range is too big or the range is too small, set these parameters accordingly. Trading will happen only when Min. Range Height <= Today's Range <= Max. Range Height.

6. No. of Trades : This input helps you select if you want to trade both High and Low breakouts or Only one breakout for the day.

7. Trailing Stop Loss : With this input you can enable/disable the trailing StopLoss. The way it works is that there is a Trigger point from the entry price which can be mentioned in percentage terms. Once the price reaches that threshold, trailing is triggered. After that for each pip that goes in your favor, the trailing SL is set behind the current price by x%.

8. Day of Week Filter : You can select the days you want or don't want to trade.

The testing results displayed are all on GBPUSD, one with the 5-minute time frame and one with the 3-minute time frame over the last year. The markets are vastly different from how they were in the past due to the unique economic situations around the world at the current time, so testing against previous cycles I find irrelevant and slightly misleading. The tests all include a 1:4 risk-to-reward ratio (what I found to be most successful in the long term), and include fixed lots (20), 1% account risk and 0.25% account risk (for those prop firm traders like myself). Remember though, you can trade any pair, any time frame, anything, this is just what I have found the most success with on my very limited time to test. I have found other profitable settings on different pairs, but this was by far the best.

Remember, this is an advanced EA to use, every setting is customizable, and more advanced features will be added, so please understand that it may take some time to find settings that provide a profitable strategy on what you want to trade.

How to trade using this indicator

Although the indicator can be used as a trading system in itself, as it offers information about the Win Rate and Profit Factor, it can also be used in conjunction with some trading systems shown below:

#1 As a confirmation trend in a Moving Average crossing setup

Setup: One fast exponential moving average with 50 periods, one slow exponential moving average with 200 periods, timeframe M5, any volatile asset like XAUUSD for example.

Wait for a crossover between the two averages above. After that, open a position only when the indicator gives a signal after this crossover and in the direction of the trend signaled by the crossing of the faster average in relation to the slower one. Set stop loss at Pivot points for a higher hit rate. (click here for more details)

#2 As a confirmation signal on a Breakout system

Setup: Find the current main trend, draw a consolidation channel and look for breakouts in the direction of it. When the indicator gives a signal outside the channel confirming the breakout open a correspondent position. (click here for more details)

#3 Swing trading on higher timeframes using the inner Moving Average filter

Setup: Add the indicator on a high timeframe like H4 or higher. Use the Moving Average filter, present in the indicator itself. After that, also activate the \"One signal direction at a time\" option.

Open a buy position when the indicator signals it and close it only when a new sell signal appears or vice versa.

SecondSymbol Input: Alerts are received only for this second symbol, not the symbol in the main chart. This approach is crucial for backtesting the indicator. For example, when trading EURUSD vs GBPUSD, two charts are opened. On the EURUSD chart, alerts for GBPUSD are received, since it is designated as the SecondSymbol and vice versa.
Inverse Option: Adjust analysis for inversely correlated assets, enhancing strategies that involve trading pairs with opposite movements.

How it works:

When placed on a chart the advisor scans M1 bars in order to identify market open / close times, also it periodically downloads and updates the list of upcoming news.

You can configure which market closure gaps and which news events you want to protect.

You can also choose which symbols and magic numbers will be hedged.

How to install:

First of all you have to allow the following urls in the Tools | Options | Expert Advisors menu:

Place the advisor on the chart of a symbol that you want to protect, any timeframe, configure what to protect using the provided parameters and you are done.

The first time that the advisor is placed on a chart it scans M1 bars to determine market open / close hours, if there are not enough available bars it will download them by scrolling the chart, this has a weird visual effect but it is necessary, also it might take a while so be patient.

Configuration:

Parameter	Description
Magic Number for Hedging Positions	Magic Number for the positions that the advisor manages, must be unique.
Orders Comment	This will appear in the comment column for the hedging positions.
Symbol List (comma separated)	You can specify a list of symbols to protect, “current” means the chart symbol, see cautions below.
Magic Numbers to Hedge	This is a comma separated list of the magic numbers of the positions that you want to hedge, leave it empty to protect every position.
S/L Quota for Hedging Position T/P	Hedging positions can have Stop Loss and Take Profit. They are calculated as a quota of hedged positions Take Profit and Stop Loss. e.g. if the position to be hedged has a Stop Loss of 100 pips and you set this parameter to 2.0, Take Profit will be set to 200 pips. Default is 1.0 (TP = SL).
T/P Quota for Hedging Position S/L	Hedging positions can have Stop Loss and Take Profit. They are calculated as a quota of hedged positions Take Profit and Stop Loss. e.g. if the position to be hedged has a Take Profit of 100 pips and you set this parameter to 2.0, Stop Loss will be set to 200 pips. Default is 1.0 (SL = TP).
Weekend Gaps Protection Enabled	Enable hedging of positions left open over weekends (most symbols except cryptos).
Night Gaps Protection Enabled	Enable hedging of positions overnight (for gold and some indices).
Intraday Gaps Protection Enabled	Enable hedging of positions on intraday closures (stocks).
Min Gap Length to Consider	This is the minimum duration of a gap in minutes to be considered. Default is 60, meaning that gaps of less than one hour will not be considered.
Minutes Before Gap to Start Hedging	This is the time in minutes before the market closes to start hedging. Default is 10, meaning that positions will be hedged 10 minutes before closure.
Minutes After Gap to Stop Hedging	This is the time in minutes after the market reopens to stop hedging. Default is 0, meaning that hedging positions will be closed as soon as the market opens.
News Protection Enabled	Enables news protection.
Minimum Impact	News are categorized by impact (Low, Medium and High). Default is High, meaning that only high impact news will be considered.
Include Speeches	Speeches usually do not trigger price spikes, they often start or reinforce trends though. Default is false, meaning that speeches will not be considered.
Minutes Before Event to Start Hedging	This is the time in minutes before the news release to start hedging. Default is 3, meaning that positions will be hedged 3 minutes before the event.
Minutes After Event to Stop Hedging	This is the time in minutes after the news release to stop hedging. Default is 2, meaning that hedging positions will be closed 2 minutes after the event, this should be enough to catch the price spike.
Auto Server GMT Offset	This is required if news protection is enabled, it allows synchronization of server time with news release time. Default is true.
Manual Server GMT Offset	You can safely skip setting this parameter, since synchronization is automatic. Default is 2, most brokers server time zone is gmt+2.
Manual Server Daylight Saving Mode	You can safely skip setting this parameter, since synchronization is automatic. Default is United States, most brokers use NY daylight saving time.

Caution:

This advisor allows configuration of multiple symbols on one chart, but you must be well aware of what you are doing.

Market closing times are determined from the current chart only, therefore if you put this advisor on a forex symbol (i.e. EURUSD), you should not add metals or indices in the symbol list, since those have closing times at night which would not be detected.

Therefore you should put at least one instance of the advisor for every asset type (forex, commodities, indices, stocks, …) and do not mix them.

If you are unsure, do not configure multiple symbols and simply put one instance of the advisor on separate charts for each symbol that you want to protect.

Backtesting:

Although backtesting this ea would normally produce no result, in order to see how it works and what would happen in a real environment, in the strategy tester it will place random orders to be hedged.

What to expect:

Sometimes gaps are in your favor, sometimes they are not, Smart Hedge neutralizes them all, taking away the losses but also the easy gains. On average the net profit / loss of this advisor will be 0, minus broker commissions.
