JPMorgan CEO Warns of 5 Risks Threatening US Stocks and Bonds

America's biggest bank says the US economy remains strong. Yet JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon has identified five risks that could shake stock and bond markets, even as Wall Street prepares for another Federal Reserve interest-rate decision.

“However, large fiscal deficits, sticky inflation, elevated asset prices, rising interest rates and geopolitical conditions continue to shift under the surface,” Dimon warned in JPMorgan's third-quarter earnings.

Here is why each warning matters for investors.

1. Sticky Inflation

US consumer prices rose 3.7% in September from a year earlier. Gasoline prices jumped 34.2%, squeezing household budgets and raising business costs.

Persistent inflation also reduces the purchasing power of fixed bond payments. It gives the Federal Reserve another reason to keep interest rates high.

2. America's Growing Debt

The US recorded a $1.99 trillion budget deficit in fiscal 2026.

Washington must borrow heavily to cover the shortfall. More government bonds entering the market can push yields higher, reducing the value of existing bonds and raising borrowing costs across the economy.

Spending rose by +6%, to .4 trillion, and NET interest officially rose above https://twitter.com/KobeissiLetter/status/2111197992577626490 trillion.

Debt servicing costs are now their third largest expense for the US…

3. Overpriced Stocks

The AI boom is showing cracks.

China's technology-heavy STAR 50 index has lost roughly 40% in under four months. America's Nasdaq fell nearly 6% from its October peak through Friday.

Investors are increasingly questioning whether enormous AI investments will deliver enough profit to justify elevated stock valuations.

4. Rising Interest Rates

The Fed raised rates in September to 3.75%–4%.

Markets expect a pause on October 28, followed by another increase in December.

Higher rates make borrowing more expensive, pressure corporate profits and typically weigh on existing bond prices.

5. Geopolitical Tensions

The Middle East conflict has pushed oil prices above $100 a barrel, adding fresh pressure to global inflation.

Another energy shock could force the Fed to maintain restrictive rates even as economic growth weakens.

For now, JPMorgan's own figures suggest resilience. The bank recorded $2.7 billion in provisions for credit losses, down from $3.4 billion a year earlier.

But Dimon's warning raises a troubling question: how long can that resilience survive if all five risks intensify together?
