At August 29, 2026, cash was $36.9 million, up from $31.8 million at May 30, 2026. Inventory was $103.3 million and accounts receivable $34.9 million. Total assets were $211.7 million, liabilities $42.5 million, and stockholders’ equity $169.2 million. The company had no revolving-credit borrowings and reported compliance with covenants; its facility has a $20 million limit and matures October 7, 2028. Operating cash flow benefited in part from a $2.0 million increase in accounts payable and accrued liabilities, described as timing-related.
Material changes and segment results
- PMT: Sales rose 19.7% to $46.8 million; gross margin improved to 35.4% from 31.3%. Management cited semiconductor wafer-fab demand and RF and wireless growth, including SATCOM and defense.
- GES: Sales rose 27.1% to $9.2 million; gross margin increased to 32.6% from 29.6%. Growth reflected wind-turbine power-management products, initial battery energy storage system shipments, and synthetic-diamond applications.
- Canvys: Sales rose 7.9% to $8.9 million; gross margin increased to 33.0% from 30.9%, primarily on higher North American sales.
- Consolidated gross margin improved on favorable PMT and GES product mix and an IEEPA tariff refund. Management said the refund affected gross margin by 1.7%; investors should confirm the precise basis and whether the benefit is recurring.
- Other income/expense shifted from $1.4 million of income to $0.1 million of expense. The prior-year amount included a non-recurring $0.9 million gain; the current quarter included a $0.2 million foreign-exchange loss.
Outlook, risks and contingencies
No sales or earnings guidance was provided. Management expects existing liquidity and operating cash flows to meet known capital and working-capital needs for at least the next 12 months. It cautioned that quarterly results are not necessarily indicative of full-year results.
Management said trade-policy changes had not materially affected first-quarter results, but further tariffs, retaliatory measures, customer demand effects, and the ability to pass through costs could harm sales and gross margins. Other cited risks include foreign-exchange movements, inflation, economic weakness, geopolitical conflict, raw-material costs and labor conditions. The company does not use derivatives to manage foreign-currency exposure. It reported no material changes to previously disclosed risk factors and no legal proceedings. An Illinois income-tax audit covering June 2021–May 2023 remains pending; the company has requested an extension until March 2027. A German tax audit concluded without material impact.
Investor verification priorities
- Determine the size, accounting treatment and repeatability of the IEEPA tariff refund and its stated 1.7% gross-margin effect.
- Assess whether segment growth—especially PMT semiconductor demand and initial GES battery-storage shipments—continues, and whether improved margins persist without one-time benefits.
- Track working-capital conversion: receivables and inventory increased, while operating cash flow benefited from payables and accrued-liability timing.
- Review tariff exposure, pass-through capacity, foreign-exchange risk and the outcome of the pending Illinois tax audit.
- Monitor share dilution: common shares outstanding increased during the quarter, including from option exercises and restricted-stock activity.
