Investing activities provided $17.0 million, mainly reflecting marketable-security maturities; financing used $36.5 million, including $31.8 million of share repurchases and $7.7 million of dividends. Cash increased $5.3 million to $84.2 million. At June 30, cash and cash equivalents plus marketable securities totaled $166.8 million; working capital was $149.2 million. Material changes and notable items

  • Q2 revenue grew 14.9% year over year, and six-month revenue grew 14.6%. Higher product sales, particularly to service providers in the Americas, drove the increase.
  • Gross margin expanded 3.2 percentage points in Q2 and 2.8 points for the first half. Management attributed improvement to product and geographic mix and lower services delivery costs.
  • Operating expenses rose 7.9% in Q2 and 8.5% for the first half, slower than revenue growth. Sales and marketing increased, while six-month R&D expense edged down.
  • The six-month income tax provision rose to $4.4 million from $0.7 million, primarily reflecting U.S. federal and state taxes in 2022 versus foreign taxes in 2021.
  • Available-for-sale securities had $1.2 million of unrealized losses at June 30; the filing reports no impairment charge.

Outlook, risks and contingencies

  • Management expects existing cash and marketable securities to meet anticipated cash needs for at least the next 12 months and beyond. For 2022, management expected sales and marketing and R&D expenses to remain at 2021 levels, and G&A expense to remain stable.
  • The company expects comparable quarterly dividends but states that future declarations, amounts and timing remain at the Board’s discretion. Subsequent to quarter-end, the Board declared a $0.05-per-share dividend payable September 1, 2022.
  • Revenue is concentrated and can be irregular: the ten largest end-customers accounted for 49% of Q2 revenue, versus 37% a year earlier. Two customers each represented at least 10% of Q2 revenue. Large purchases and long sales cycles make quarterly results difficult to predict.
  • Key risks include COVID-19 effects, semiconductor and supply-chain constraints, reliance on third-party manufacturers in Taiwan, competition and cloud-transition execution, foreign-exchange movements, and product or cybersecurity defects. Open manufacturer purchase commitments were $39.0 million.
  • The company disclosed ongoing legal proceedings but provided no specific case outcomes or quantified loss exposure in this filing. It reported $6.8 million of unrecognized tax benefits and could not reliably estimate settlement timing. Disclosure controls were assessed as effective at a reasonable-assurance level.

Important facts for investors to verify

  • Whether Americas-led growth and service-provider demand persist, and whether Asia Pacific revenue stabilizes.
  • Customer concentration, large-deal timing, and the effect of the disclosed supply constraints on shipments and margins.
  • Cash generation after substantial repurchases and dividends, alongside $39.0 million in purchase commitments and ongoing lease obligations.
  • Whether margin expansion and management’s 2022 expense expectations continue as product mix, costs and investment needs change.
  • Future dividend and repurchase decisions, and any material developments in legal, tax or supply-chain contingencies.
