Are Wall Street Analysts Predicting APA Corporation Stock Will Climb or Sink?

Houston, Texas-based APA Corporation (APA) explores for, develops, and produces natural gas, crude oil, and natural gas liquids. With a market cap of $17.1 billion, the company also has exploration and appraisal activities in Suriname, as well as holds interests in projects located in Uruguay and internationally.

Shares of this independent energy company have significantly outperformed the broader market over the past year. APA has gained 113.3% over this time frame, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has rallied nearly 10.3%. In 2026, APA stock is up 96.1%, surpassing the SPX’s 10.2% rise on a YTD basis.

Zooming in further, APA’s outperformance looks less pronounced compared to the State Street SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF (XOP). The exchange-traded fund has gained about 50.3% over the past year. Moreover, the stock’s returns on a YTD basis outshine the ETF’s 52% gains over the same time frame.

APA Corporation's strong performance has been driven by favorable oil market conditions, particularly rising crude prices fueled by Middle East supply disruptions and tighter global supplies. A notable catalyst occurred on Sep. 15, when shares jumped 3.2% as U.S. crude surpassed $103 per barrel and Brent approached $107. These elevated prices have boosted realized margins, cash flow, and overall profitability, while drawing investor rotation into energy stocks amid broader market pressures.

For the current fiscal year, ending in December, analysts expect APA’s EPS to grow 71.4% to $6.46 on a diluted basis. The company’s earnings surprise history is impressive. It beat the consensus estimate in each of the last four quarters.

Among the 30 analysts covering APA stock, the consensus is a “Moderate Buy.” That’s based on nine “Strong Buy” ratings, two “Moderate Buys,” 16 “Holds,” and three “Strong Sells.”

On Oct. 20, Susquehanna analyst Charles Minervino kept a “Positive” rating on APA and raised the price target to $58, implying a potential upside of 18.8% from current levels.

While APA currently trades above its mean price target of $48.48, the Street-high price target of $63 suggests an upside potential of 29%.
