On Oct. 29, Merck & Co. reported its Q3 2026 earnings, with shares rising 3.8% on the same day as results exceeded analyst expectations on both revenue and earnings. Worldwide sales increased 4.6% year over year to $18.09 billion, driven by continued strength in oncology and animal health, along with contributions from newer products. However, non-GAAP EPS declined 3.5% to $2.49 from $2.58 in the year-ago quarter, partly reflecting higher operating expenses and net interest expense.

Alongside its results, Merck raised its full-year 2026 worldwide sales guidance to $66.8 billion to $67.3 billion, compared with its previous outlook of $66.3 billion to $67.3 billion. The company also increased its non-GAAP EPS guidance to $2.77 to $2.82 from $2.66 to $2.76, while narrowing its non-GAAP operating expense outlook to $42.4 billion to $42.9 billion from $42 billion to $42.7 billion. The revised EPS outlook includes one-time charges of $3.62 per share related to the Cidara acquisition, $2.31 per share for Terns Pharmaceuticals, and $0.12 per share for the SciBrunch licensing agreement.

For the current fiscal year, ending in December 2026, analysts expect MRK’s diluted EPS to decrease sharply by 68% to $2.87. Notably, the company has exceeded Wall Street’s consensus EPS estimates in each of the past four quarters.

Among the 28 analysts covering MRK stock, the consensus rating is “Moderate Buy.” That’s based on 16 “Strong Buy” ratings, two “Moderate Buy” ratings, nine “Hold” ratings, and one “Strong Sell” rating.

The mean analyst price target of $161.67 represents an 11.8% premium to MRK’s current share price, while the Street-high target of $180 suggests a potential premium of 24.4%.
