Constellation Energy Corporation CEG is benefiting from an expanding generation portfolio that combines nuclear and renewable assets with flexible generation to meet rising electricity demand. New contracts, capacity uprates and license extensions are helping preserve and expand its clean-power generation capacity.
The company’s nuclear fleet remains central to its clean-energy strategy, and its 55-gigawatt diversified generation portfolio supplies about 10% of U.S. clean energy. The Calpine acquisition further expanded its capacity and strengthened its position to capture rising power demand.
CEG is extending the life of its nuclear assets, with license renewal applications for Ginna and Nine Mile Point Unit 1 targeting operations through 2049. The company also plans to restart the Crane Clean Energy Center in 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. CEG’s nuclear fleet has opportunities to add about 1,000 megawatts (MW) of uprated capacity through technology upgrades.
Constellation Energy’s portfolio is well positioned to benefit from rising electricity demand, particularly from data centers. These demand trends, combined with its expanding clean-power platform, could support the company's sustained earnings and cash-flow growth. CEG expects base earnings per share (EPS) to grow more than 20% through 2029, followed by growth exceeding 10% over long-term rolling three-year periods.
Growing Clean-Energy Portfolio Drives Utility Growth
Expanding renewable and low-carbon generation allows independent power producers to capitalize on rising electricity demand. Long-term Power Purchase Agreements can support project development while providing more predictable revenue streams.
Vistra Corp. VST is expanding its clean-energy portfolio through Oak Hill 2 and Pulaski solar projects, while its zero-carbon capacity is projected to reach 8,281 MW in 2026, supporting growth and diversification.
Clearway Energy CWEN is expanding its clean-energy portfolio through growth investments, which helped increase second-quarter Renewables & Storage generation by 16%. Its operating portfolio includes approximately 11.1 gigawatts of gross wind, solar and battery-storage capacity.
