Eaton Corporation’s ETN acquisition strategy is becoming an important growth driver, expanding its presence in high-growth markets tied to electrification, digitalization and artificial intelligence. The company targets differentiated technologies that complement its power-management portfolio, offer attractive returns and can leverage the global customer network.
Eaton recently agreed to acquire COL Group from Oaktree’s Power Opportunities strategy for €810 million ($923 million). The deal will strengthen Eaton’s European power distribution business by adding medium-voltage technologies, expanding manufacturing capabilities and supporting growing demand from data center and utility customers.
The AI-driven data-center expansion is the biggest growth catalyst for the company. In 2026, Eaton completed acquisitions that included Ultra PCS and Boyd Thermal, which enhanced its ability to address increasing power density and infrastructure complexity. Acquired assets contributed 7% to Eaton’s sales in second-quarter 2026.
The acquisitions continue to make a meaningful contribution and boost Eaton’s performance. The company expects the Ultra PCS acquisition and Boyd Thermal acquisition to contribute $250 million and $1,500 million to total sales, respectively, in 2026.
Eaton is also expanding its aerospace capabilities. The $1.53 billion purchase of Ultra PCS in January 2026 added electronic controls, sensing and data-processing technologies, increasing the company’s exposure to mission-critical aerospace systems.
Overall, Eaton’s acquisitions, including the expected 2027 closing of COL Group, should broaden its addressable market, strengthen technological capabilities and increase exposure to long-term growth trends. Cross-selling opportunities and potential synergies could further support earnings growth and competitive positioning.
How Acquisitions Boost Prospects of ETN’s Peers
Power management companies are increasingly using strategic acquisitions to benefit from growing demand across AI data centers, grid modernization and industrial automation. Integrating specialized technologies into existing portfolios can enhance product offerings, strengthen customer service and support sustained growth.
Emerson Electric Co. EMR acquired Glue Inc. in August 2026, adding AI-enabled software capabilities to its Test & Measurement portfolio. The deal strengthens Emerson’s software-defined, data-centric automation offerings and builds on its 2025 AspenTech acquisition.
Powell Industries POWL acquired U.K.-based Remsdaq in August 2025 for $16.3 million. The acquisition added SCADA remote terminal unit technology, strengthening Powell’s electrical automation capabilities across power generation, transmission and distribution markets.
